January Transfer Window 2019

Chelsea had a record turnover and profit on player sales in their last accounts.

I’d expect a global superleague with MLS, Japanese and South America.

Be a great signing for Chelsea. Liverpool had a sniff around him

A myopic superfan like your good self would applaud the tactic of selling players to bolster revenue but long term it is not sustainable. Finishing in the top 4 this year will slow the process down but it is inevitable that Chelsea will return to being a nothing club.

Chelsea make great amounts of money in identifying young talents, signing them for reasonable fees then selling them off for much more a few years later after numerous loan spells. It’s proven to be very profitable.

He doesn’t even start for Dortmund

He wouldn’t commit to the club long term.

They’ve been ordered to reduce the amount of players they have out on loan. Abromovich funded the purchase of all these players (the primary strategy seemed to be to prevent other clubs from getting players as opposed to developing young players), he no longer pumps money in to Chelsea. The financial doping has stopped, Chelsea’s days as a top club are numbered.

They’ve just recorded a record turnover.

They’re now a selling club which is why in time they will revert back to being a nothing club. They’ll sell Hazard in the summer and revenues will be boosted again. Short term it looks good, long term it’s unsustainable. They’ve spent last year’s profit of 60m on a player that isn’t a regular for Dortmund. Chelsea are on a very slippery slope and this was always going to be the case when Putin reigned Roman in.

They’re only a selling club in the way all English clubs are. When Real Madrid and Barca come knocking they will find it difficult to keep hold of their star players.

The Russian connection helps enormously if you’re trying to sign a Yank.

Since Putin tightened the purse strings CSKA London are no longer able to compete with Madrid and Barcelona to attract a player. They’re not even able to compete domestically with Liverpool in the transfer market. Liverpool achieved their clout through a sustainable business model. Chelsea will be found wanting now that they have to balance the books.

When has any English club been able to compete with Barca and Real?

Are you saying Chelsea couldn’t compete with them around 2004-2005 regarding transfers?

Yes.

Chelsea’s most expensive signing of Summer 2004 was Drogba at 24.5m, Madrid’s was Walter Samuel for 24m, Barcelona’s was Eto for 24m. This would lead a rational mind to believe that Chelsea were well able to mix it with Real and Barce on the transfer front.

Could you for all fairness post up the 3 teams purchases & sales for that transfer window?

It seems you are picking out one transfer to suit your own argument.

The forum is built on that.
