If we could find a way to get Joe involved with the best minor team we’ve produced in 20 years.
Is Skehill in with a group up there, which age? The two of them get on well. Surround them with a backroom akin to Nash and O’Connor in Cork. Medium to long term goals and standards, no reason why Galway shouldn’t be coming right then
Cyril Farrell was the only man to tame Galway.
Watching them against Tipp I was thinking these lads are flying it, throwing Tipp around the place, but then not waiting until the handy shot was on or fluffing around with ball on the last moves. Just need more time together, all those mickey mouse matches aren’t worth a fuck in Leinster
Joe is doing a live hurling pod gig in dublin soon with Ciaran Carey and Tommy Walsh. I must fuck off anyway, will just pop another shit post in the Tipp thread before I leave. It’s be rude not to.
I haven’t read anything from Canning or seen anything in his punditry that would show he’s much of a tactical brain.
Skehill and Joe had this years minor team playing in a style similar to how you’d imagine the Harlem Globetrotters would play hurling. Our issue down the years has been our inability to transform an endless supply of extremely talented young hurlers into a talented senior team. This year’s lot played with an arrogance that you’d expect of a Galway minor team except they didn’t even win the All Ireland. The warning signs were there all year. The mgt seemed to want to complicate a ham sandwich.
They were incredibly light too, no conditioning done. Clare ayte them alive.
We have plenty problems in Galway but one fairly obvious one is S&C. There is a baseline set by the likes of Limerick & Kilkenny amongst others when it comes to conditioning. Its not going to win you all Irelands in it’s own but it gives you a chance to compete for dirty ball. A few players who played for us this year are deficient in this area and Limerick exploited this on Saturday.
is that the Lukasz Kirzenstein fella?
Wasn’t there a big song and dance when Galway poached the S&C guy from Tipperary (who had just won the All Irleland)? Galway then went and then won the All Ireland with him? Just goes to show how much the thing has moved on more in the past 6 or 7 years
Galway physically destroyed Limerick in '17.
We haven’t payed him since 2018 so he’s feeding the lads a diet of coco pops and then out for a few laps.
it never did us any harm
It takes a few years. If he’s just doing the senior team he can’t be responsible for what’s coming up from younger grades.
His title (according to Linkedin) is Head of Athletic Development at Galway GAA so I think he oversees the lot
He’s over the whole lot. Or at least he’s meant to be.
Clare went from being miles off it at underage to being a physically different beast at minor and u20 this year.
Who did that lads? Adrian O’Brien?
O’Brien is only with the seniors.
Rob Mulcahy is oversees all S&C from development squads to 20s for the last few years and is top class
When will the younger genius/one-sided Niland be ready lads? Be looks unbelievable.
