He didn’t hit it cleanly either.
He is top notch though. Not a bottler. An outstanding forward. Last year against Galway, everyone said he was quiet. He wasn’t. He was dangerous for the full seventy minutes.
As I recall, you counted his “plays” in the second half and concluded he didn’t do as much as people said. You neglected to mention the timing and impact of those plays. You overlooked frees he won and the frees he nailed, tackles etc. This is my memory of the discussion at the time mind.
You had a valid point that he didn’t own the ball or anything like that. But you are certainly underplaying the impact he had. He assumed responsibility and came up with big moments against the run of play that shifted momentum back in kilkenny’s favour. You are completely overlooking the intangible quality of the impact of what he did on the game and its galvanising effect on his teammates. That can’t be understated and that is why what he did was so memorable to so many people.
He’s a talented hurler but in terms up turning up at vital moments when the chips are down he’s never done it.
What are you implying here, mate?
Don’t forget the 3 vital scores before half time to keep kk in touch with galway had all the momentum
I’m about to go on a flight. I’ll debunk this later
He’s bottler with pressure not a poor penalty taker. He goes missing in the final 10 minutes of games when tipp need him most. Delaney had the last laugh when aged 33 he still managed to get back and make the vital block on callanan.
No you won’t mate. He shat it yesterday driving a few 65s wide. Was nowhere to be seen. As per usual when tipp need him.
He’s a flat track bully - a big time Charlie - Goes missing when the heat is turned up.
A Mother Theresa
Precisely. He’ll run riot against the minnows but nowhere to be seen yesterday when his team needed him.
He has never been great at penalties. You’re wrong on the rest. He is a top class forward that has had a massive impact in big games.
See @gilgamboa’s Michael Jordan quote. It sums it up and puts paid to your argument.
Callanan missed the vital frees 2 years ago and missed the vital frees yesterday? that puts paid to my argument? Weren’t you trying to shane dowling could be as good as him? That just about sums everything you know about hurling up.
Guys, the game was on Sunday.
Was Callanan concussed after the bang to the head? He would normally nail those two 65s he missed, and was very peripheral for the last 15 minutes. I thought his biggest miss was the goal chance where he had ample time to get the ball into the hand and either slot it home or be fouled for a penalty.
He hit two vital points from play in the last 10 minutes of the 2010 All-Ireland final.
His contribution since 2014 alone has been considerably greater than Canning’s has since 2008.
Not specifically. Its something others have pointed out.
It just reminded me of a trend i noticed with many players dominant at underage.
I’m adding my theory to their observations.
His “in-and-out of gamesness” may be physical too. He may just be a “Power” player and physiologically he doesn’t recover like others aerobically
Canning has to prove himself also I never denied that.
To who?
Canning is an elite hurler in that he’s undoubtedly a mercurial genius, but he is far from an elite athlete.
