Joe Canning, Unquestionably the GOAT

He has a ways to go to catch up to the Kyle Hayes’ of this world.

He got the wan at least. He deserved that

Has Joe called it a day?
I think he’s the best I ever saw play the game

Half the AI medals Tom Condon has

He did.

Joe has more than one All Ireland medal I think.

Top championship scorer of all time. Not retired

Some fucking man

I think he played minor and U21 for Galway in the one year.

Paudie didn’t do much hurling that day iirc

He did a job in fairness.

He certainly did.

Definitely remember Cloonan lining out in goal for Galway against Wx as a Minor in '96. Broderick was a stand out in '95 being a starting forward on both sides.

Galway just constantly did that i.e. progressing talent beyond boundaries at underage

Cloonan was outfield in 1996. In the semi vs Kilkenny he gave an exhibition at full forward. Scoring a dozen.

The final was basically him vs Eugene O’Neill for Tipp. Full Forward vs Full Forward.

Your description of canning’s goal in 2015 was as fine bit of sports writing as I’ve seen in a long time. I was watching with a pal of mine, a great Galway hurling man, and I can vividly remember it. In one normal moment the ball was floating/arcing in. There was what seemed like a millisecond flurry of activity, and then nothing.
I turned to him and said “what’s after happening there?”
And then the green flag went up, and I thought it must be a mistake. The net was surprised. A lovely, and absolutely perfect description.
That was sports writing at its best.

Think that was Ger Farragher.
