Abject apology on tv3 news tonight for accusing JD of being the senior FAI source
Morning Ireland has just followed suit.
KIB Man is surely next
From todays examiner
Meanwhile, as the fallout from a dramatic week in Irish football continued, RTĂ has been forced to apologise to FAI chief executive John Delaney for the content and tone of a sports segment broadcast yesterday.
Association chiefs made immediate contact with Montrose after Delaneyâs name was linked with newspaper reports indicating Giovanni Trapattoni would be sacked this week as Irish manager.
One newspaper on Monday suggested that Trapattoni could lose his job, irrespective of what the result in the following nightâs World Cup qualifying game against the Faroe Islands. The timing of the publication of the report, which cited only âa senior FAI sourceâ, meant that before and after the World Cup qualifying match in the Faroes the following evening, Giovanni Trapattoni was bombarded with questions about his position by Irish journalists who were in the capital Torshavn to cover the game.
Meanwhile, the FAI press officers present declined to make any comment on the issue while, before and after the game itself, John Delaney dismissed approaches from journalists who were seeking clarification.
As it transpired, Ireland won the game 4-1 and, at a specially convened meeting of the FAIâs Board of Management back in Dublin on Wednesday, Trapattoni was given the backing to continue in his position.
Yesterday evening, RTĂ Radio 1 broadcast the following apology: âOn our Morning After sports bulletin just after 8.30 this morning, we featured a piece between Darren Frehill and our Soccer Correspondent Tony Oâ Donoghue in which we stated that it was generally believed that mixed messages had been given to the media about the future of the senior managerâs position, that the chief executive of the FAI, John Delaney, was the senior FAI source responsible for those rumours. RTĂ and Tony OâDonoghue would like to unreservedly apologise to the CEO John Delaney for these statements which were made on our programme which were untrue. We would also like to apologise for the general tone of that particular exchange.â
John Delaney, not a man to take any bullshit
That seems very weird. Unlikely a couple of sources would implicate Delaney so explicitly unless he was briefing against Trap. However, hard to see why they would apologise if he was leaking just because Trap stayed and Delaney was embarrassed. Itâs pretty humiliating for the media orgs involved.
Itâs clear that someone senior was briefing heavily against Trap because of the volume and consistency of all the medias stories at the start of the week. If it wasnât Delaney, maybe he can let us know who it was.
The bin man must come by John Delaneyâs house of a Friday, because heâs taking out the fucking trash :guns: :guns: :guns: :guns:
Ah this was a great Friday morning, Morning Ireland and the boys having to make a nice big apology to John.
Bet Tony OâDonoghue feels like a right disused tampon this morning
Milo Corcoran must be acting the maggot.
What a slimey fucker Delaney is-presiding over a shambles of an organisation, he manages to come out of this untarnished. Journalists asking legitimate questions before the Faroes match are ignored while he plays wait and see, then backs Trappatoni when Ireland do the unthinkable and win a match against the mighty Faroes. He takes a 10% paycut from his obscene âŹ400k salaries and comes out the hero while clubs in Ireland go to the wall and the FAI let people go, put people on 3 day weeks and have massive cutbacks everywhere. The sneaky gin soaked Fianna Fail like sleveen is then viewed as a hero by a load of mentally retarded fuckwits and wife beaters because he bought them a few cans on a train. We really are a sorry sorry nation when it comes to cowering before our leaders and âbettersâ as we long for the return of royalty so that we may be subjects once more.
+1. Some lads on here are fair easily bought off.
+1
Well said. Delaney was more than willing to bite his tongue will fevered speculation about Trapâs status ran riot in the Irish press. When he realised Trap wasnât walking and his broke association couldnât afford to pay him off heâs pulled this reverse ferret.
Monkeys with typewriters like McDonnell are putty in this guys hands.
The lads are seething
This episode may teach some apes in Journalism a lesson too though lads. Tony OâDonoghue really believed his opinions would hold sway in getting Trap sacked
Dunphy is another fucking clown who couldnât control his gob too.
Two apes of the highest order-however, just because Delaneyâs enemies are dickheads doesnât absolve the dipso from his failings.
Delaney clearly works for the IRFU and the GAA.
Some slimy organisation. The senior source will get outed eventually. Thereâll be a lot of very bitter hacks after this fiasco. But theyâre cheap and will be easily bought I suspect.
the irfu must be laughing there holes off at this carryon, its better than any recruitment drive for kids and it comes absolutely free. the gaa would be pissing themselves too if they could be bothered enough by this crowd to give a shit.
in general, this has been a terrific week for sport in ireland.
the lesson here is that football people, or soccer people whichever, all of them, from the head honchos in suits who get fat as fuck from it all through the uneducated players, the deluded fans and all the way to the gutter journos who cover this tripe because they are not intelligent enough for current affairs are a laughing stock. its a bizarre set up which seems to attract the dirge of society at every level.
Since Ireland were stuffed by germany a week ago Delaney has trousered what, 8k? in fairness id imagine he has worked hard this week, esp since Monday.
trappatoni has sucked almost 30k from the ordinary football people in the same period of time. fair fucks to him though.
