Heâs blinded by his own petty hatreds. Itâs amazing that all these Agribigots foam at the mouth when soccer gets some well earned public money to invest in local facilities, but they never bat an eyelid when the GGA is spunking money on the next ugly white elephant in Cavan and the likes.
Local facilities?
The average Irish adult soccer baller togs out every Sunday morning in a bush. Thatâs a municipal bush, owned by the state and funded and maintained by the taxpayer.
The GGA would never let that happen, itâs about standards. The fai chose to set theirs low. You soccer ballers want to drag the rest of us down to your level, you lazy, dirty bastards. Get your house in order.
We are getting our house in order. If soccer was given a fraction of the public money the GGA syphons of the state there would be no need for lads to tog out on the sidelines.
The Dalymount development is hopefully a sign of things to come. The financial madness of subsidising the GGA to build hideous concrete stadiums that are never filled has to stop.
The gga is dead
nobody plays it
nobody watches it
RIP
Concrete dumps with cheap steal support beams like something youâd see in a 1950s baseball ballpark, thatâs what the GGA have in abundance. All built so some aul lad on a county board can have a multi million euro legacy (vanity) project to their record.
Irelandâs sporting facilities and stadium policy is a joke ,and that includes soccer who have got quite a bit of public money. However, whilst the GGA still have that jokeshop Rule on their books I canât see things changing. A Roaster TD would be signing his own death warrant if he said to the GGA that they must get rid of the old Rule 42 if they wanted more cash.
Different sporting codes in this country should be working together instead of at each others throats imo.
The real enemy is computer games, obesity and lack of activity. For young kids under 12, they should be given the chance to play every sport they can, and hopefully they can then pick 2 codes that they like the most to pursue into their teens and beyond.
If the fai would bother their arse to help the poor old eejit getting humiliated togging in the bushes of a public park every Sunday morning then I wouldnât begrudge them a few taxpayers Euros towards a few small white elephants.
But tbey donât and they wonât.
The GGA is a first world organisation and gets rewarded for what they provide to communities up and down the country.
The fai is a jokeshop setup who provide nothing of note to the people of Ireland in 2016.
How can the different sporting bodies work together when the GGA have a rule on their books which prohibits the sharing of GGA grounds with other sports?
It still exists. How the GGA managed to pivot what was a completely archaic and xenaphobic rule which they should have got rid off years before to being a PR triumph which lined their pockets is amazing to me. That they did this whilst also managing to retain this rule at the grassroots is even more incredible. I have to hand it them with the spell they weave over politicians and the media in this country.
I criticise the FAI for being a shambles but in fairness to the FAI;
- theyâve been a pro sport for longer than anyone else in the country. The best players and money earners leave when a sniff comes from abroad. There is little to no domestic league and whilst people will argue over barstoolers, poor facilities and other matters till the cows come home, the reality is that when the best players are abroad few will care
- the FAI are the one body in Ireland highly constrained by the broadcasting rights rules. Those mandate more soccer is FTA than the GAA & rugby combined. The only mandatory FTA games for the GAA are the All Ireland Finals. Meanwhile, the FAI must sell to RTĂ or TV3 all Ireland games for qualifiers. How is that fair? The FAI actually have to pay the players. When you see the GGA going out and selling to Sky Sports when they had absolutely no need to beyond vanity you have to start to wonder.
the gga is fucked mate
no world class stadium
lots of decrepit death trap stadiums
well behind rugby & football in tv ratings
cant grip the nation like professional sports
only 1 of its sports in the top 10 in terms of participation
sold their games to the world, the world said no thanks
only 1 decent competition which is so badly structured most teams only play 2 games
What do you start wondering about? The fai donât have a product worth selling, the GGA do.
The FAI did sell their product, to Sky. Good old Bertie stepped into stop it (RTE had him onto The Premiership with Dunphy and Giles previous to that to butter him up).
There is no excuse for the GGA to sell their games to Sky Sports. Sky Sports rates and always has rated poorly in the main. Sub 100k audiences are routine and the GGA ratings have been in the toilet. The great myth the GGA President at the time (to an Oireactas Committee headed by John OâMahoney, I believe) spread was that by selling to Sky Sports that the lads over in Australia could watch games and secondly that they could spread the game in places like the UK being on Sky. Firstly the Australian argument was clearly nonsense as it had nothing to do with Sky Sports in the UK and Ireland but no TD questioned it. Secondly, the GGA went on Sky in the UK as a funning little filler. Like fishing or the Webber Cup for bowling.
Sky wanted it for the Irish maket clearly. The GGA obliged. Why did the GGA need to put games on pay tv when there were FTA offers? It was pure vanity designed to bloody the nose of RTE who have pissed them off over the years.
Meanwhile the FAI canât sell to pay tv. The IRFU know exactly what will happen if the Govt ever add their games to that list and hired in PR consultants during the last attempt for a resistance against it.
If the fai sold Irish games to sky it would further isolate little Johnny and Jimmy who are togging under a Bush, it wod help kill the game off here.
Irish soccer needs its games on fta.
Yawn
would it be great if John Delaney became president of the GAA, imagine what a man of his vision could achieve in charge of all the bogmen running croke park?
What a stupid ugly looking cunt of a young lad Delaney was, to pull a dolly bird like he has done 25 years later is all the more impressive now having seen that.
We all looked like that back then.
In fact you should see the dolly birds I pulled while looking like that. Now that was impressive.
