Was Halvey convicted of manslaughter?
Heâs both a cunt and an imbecile
Itâs irrelevant to the debate, Iâll discuss that case where thereâs a point doing so. It was brought up here in an extremely low and tasteless way in order to score a cheap point.
A cheap and absolutely false point as well I would like to add
I read an article on the tackle in American football and they were saying the tackle used to be low and around the legs but it changed when the helmet was introduced to head into the midriff, because a tackle around the legs conceded an extra yard or so while the fella fell forward and stretched out his arm and into the chest increased the chance of a fumble. Some coaches continued with the old method as they were less missed tackles using it, but the majority followed the mainstream due to the likes of hit of the week etc.
When you go down the size route rather than technique you end up destroying players. At the moment rugby lads are like human wrecking balls. Forwards are bigger and more mobile and if the game is gonna keep going the way itâs going they need to think about making it a 13 v 13 game and opening the pitch up. Everything is run into contact now itâs so tight. I certainly wouldnât let a child of mine go down the rugger route regardless of what boarding school I ship them off to.
Thatâs only the case in the Northern Hemisphere. In Southern Hemisphere they still promote the idea of running around people rather than through them.
I presume heâs a bit of a god help us though.
Thatâs what Iâm hearing from my contacts down there anyway
When is the GAA going to get its act together will it take someone dying on the pitch
Itâs disgusting to see a fellow using serious head injuries to young sportsmen to score INTERNET points.
Very true, Keith Earlsâ head injuries shouldnât be trivialised like this
Itâs disgusting to see a fellow using serious head injuries to young sportsmen to score INTERNET points.
Not at all. This thread has been used to highlight many concussive incidents and poor practises. Now that GAA season back into full swing itâs only natural there will be some incidents to report
There is about 9 lads monitoring rugby at all levels so Iâm not sure I can cover GAA all by myself. Any chance of a dig out?
Good bit of GAA sweep sweeping here with the thread title changing back to the misleading one
Heâs both a cunt and an imbecile
He posts like a chap that has had a few too many concussions.
After several early injuries to their players it appears Munchins put player welfare first earlier today and decided not to continue their junior cup game vs Pres Cork.
Oustsnding leadership by Munchins coaching staff here. Safety first at all times
P.s. I hope Pres will reciprocate and allow a replay
Good to see.
Going back to a question I asked you a few weeks backs, you genuinely would still let your children play rugby? The game was forfeited FFS because of concerns to player safety. It is hard to see this happening in other sports (even if the same level of attention to player safety was adhered to).
Did they not have enough subs to continue playing or was it merely a way of not having to play without some of their best players?
Nice edit
The school has confirmed the three lads are ok and will make a speedy recovery.
This is the first time Iâve ever heard of a firfeit happening in a rugby game tbh.
I was involved in three separate underage GAA games where matches had to be abandoned once because a ref was attacked and twice more where guys got serious injuries and there was huge delays in getting them off the pitch. Once playing rugby a team mate had a double leg break and game should have been abandoned but it wasnât we played on after 40 minute break.
No idea what happened there today just got text from mate who was at it said it was freak incident
But to answer your question. No. Wouldnât put me off. I see enough games to satisfy myself that whilst there is an injury risk it is not excessive. Especially not at casual level
Not sure tbh just got the headline from someone who was there via text. Assume they had plenty subs was the primary competition
Possibly (and Iâm guessing) if there was several players injured at same time they may not have had medical resources to treat them all and provide adequate cover for the rest. Insurance plays huge part in this stuff and to best of my knowledge lot of responsibility falls on ref shoulders to make sure players are safe.
