Jordan Peterson šŸ vs CH4

To be honest I know little about him - by choice.

When this thread was started I had never heard about him and noted the same poster type calling him a legend for sticking it to the lefties and politically correct which put him off on a bad footing in my head from the start.

After a while I looked into him more and I saw a clip where he spoke about the problem with drink and suicide and how we should look to doing something about drink. I found him needlessly aggressive on the topic, his voice is unbearable to listen to, as he was looking to treat the symptom and not the underlining cause.

That was re-enforced with his comments on gender fluidity and political correctness. Again he attacked the symptom as he saw it and not the underlying mental health of the people involved and whether such a change may be warranted. For a trained person in psychology I would have thought he would be more interested in the person behind all of these cases.

i take it you hated kermit the frog as a kid ?

Heā€™s worse.

his voice is identical, its like jim henson reincarnated

This is actually a fair point that I hadnā€™t thought about. He seems to have very little interest in the mental health of people who consider themselves trans-gender, he seems to only really consider it as a social phenomenon.

But look, ultimately Farmer heā€™s just another person in pain whoā€™s coping as best he can. You have to be sympathetic to him as a person even if you donā€™t like with how heā€™s coping. Tfk could be very good for him, maybe Rocko each out and give him a membership.

the level of suicidal ideation post treatment is still in the high 70%. its highly likely that sex change treatment isnt the solution or that transexualism is the issue but a point of fixation that it will change their lives but in the end doesnt,

thats not to say that there arent positives outcomes from reassignment for a percentage

I havenā€™t heard him saying that, but it obviously is to a significant degree.

Iā€™ve defended no one, merely drawn balance. You get very tetchy if someone doesnā€™t disprove of Peterson.

A small coterie rather than an elite coterie in this instance.

I know very little about Peterson by choice - he seems like one of these controversial for the sake of it types that look to garner publicity that way and that isnā€™t something that would come on my radar.

whatever his politics - people who look to make their fame using controversy need to be very careful these days - the media will give them a platform and then the hardcore social media left/right will devour them and leave a shell. In Petersons case the hard right like his views and endorsed him, drawing the hard left onto him, all facilitated either because he went looking for it or was pushed into it because he was a ā€œstoryā€

I think you totally missed the point re gender dystopia / fluidity. He had no issue with people choosing genders, his issue was being forced, by law, to use specific terms to refer to them And I agree with him thereā€¦ them/us/we/zeā€™ and 'zirā€¦

You canā€™t just make up words and demand people use them. Thatā€™s how all authoritarian movements start, control of languageā€¦ The leftists and their desire to control people !

get in line and follow the narrative choco.

the guardian has been doing hatchet jobs on peterson for years and even their message boards think its OTT. then of course, you had the spectacular fail that was the attempted hatchet by channel 4 news.

like anyone, hje says some things that have value and some that are worthless. but even the worthless stuff is undeserving of the level of opprobrium that is coming from the left

Iā€™ve said as much all along, most of his stuff is very standard and worth listening to, other bits do nothing for me. Lads like @glasagusban taking delight in his ill health is typical of the left. Theyā€™re very vengeful.

Refreshing to see lads prefacing their put downs by boasting of their ignorance.
Lack of understanding and prejudice are now virtuous apparently

That was effing brilliant from start to finish

You accused me of taking enjoyment out of his misfortune and corrected me on it.

Incorrect and defensive.

Farmer posted something and you lepped in with two feet again with a nonsense statement that ā€œ99.9% of what he said was standard psychologyā€. Something you couldnā€™t quantify if you tried.

Again, incorrect and defensive.

I donā€™t know what your last sentence there was supposed to be trying to say.

whoā€™s done that?
