I see one of the topics on Questions and Answers is āRoy Keane, is he cut out for managementā canāt wait ti hear Batt O Keefeās and Roisin Shorthallās opinions on this oneā¦
Christ almighty.
They have little to be talking about.
[quote=āfarmerinthecityā]Christ almighty.

to make it worse Matt Cooper is also on it, so expect Roy to have loads of supportā¦
jesus christ its time for the irish population to wise up to that cork prick once and for all, if the fucker gets sacked there will be marches down pa street.
that questions and answers feels the need to deal with this shit when the country is fucked says it all.
unbelievable!
so what did batt and matt have to say anyway?
They go through all his signings today in the indo in order of uselessness. Kywen Jones is down as the best with Greg Halford as the worst.
any chance you could post up what they say about Craig Gordon
Ya, I must go down and rob the sports section from the boardroom first.
1 Kenwyne Jones, 6m August 2007
From: Southampton
Now: Sunderland
A shrewd businessman will come in and look at what assets have increased on the price they were purchased at. Jones (right) is perhaps the only such example and his form last year was such that Liverpool were genuinely interested. Unlucky with set-backs since, but trying to play him through injury emphasises his worth.
- Steed Malbranque, Undisclosed (Est. 7m), July 2008
From: Spurs
Now: Sunderland
Hard to definitively assess his impact at this juncture but he did stand out as one of the better summer purchases from Keane. Put it like this: if Keane does go, any new boss would be happy to see him in the dressing room compared to some of the others.
- Carlos Edwards 1.4m, January 2007
From: Luton
Now: Sunderland
Inspired addition at the time to boost promotion-chasing squad. Another who failed to step up to Premier League although injuries have not helped; was recently sent on loan to Wolves before being quickly recalled.
- Dwight Yorke, 200,000, August 2006
From: Sydney
Now: Sunderland
Brought back from Australia to do his bit in the promotion year and, in that context, good enough value for 200,000. Loyalty to Yorke since then has proved to be questionable.
- Teemu Tainio, Undisclosed, July 2008
From: Spurs
Now: Sunderland
One of the many Spurs players courted by Keane during the summer. Has failed to make an astonishing impression but then heās not a flashy sort; difficult to judge thusfar but has proved popular with fans who cannot believe Dean Whitehead is ahead of him.
- David Connolly 1.4m, August 2006
From: Wigan
Now: Sunderland
You could argue that Connolly was a decent buy as he served his purpose by scoring plenty of goals in their charge toward promotion. However, in tandem with the rest of his career, he was unable to replicate that form at the highest level.
- Ross Wallace, Undisclosed, August 2006
From: Celtic
Now: Preston (on loan)
Brought in from Celtic to help with promotion charge and played his part both then and in the clubās first year in the Premier League although gradually dropped out of favour and replaced this summer.
- Craig Gordon, 9m, July 2007
From: Hearts
Now: Sunderland
Ok, Gordon may have been hot property but if ever there is a case of a manager paying over the odds then this is it. Yes, he is a good goalkeeper, but he has made a few too many mistakes for a man with his price tag who, it must be remembered, was signed from the SPL.
- George McCartney, Undisclosed (Est. 4.5m), August 2008
From: West Ham
Now: Sunderland
Brought back for second stint at the club at the end of August. Itās early days in terms of measuring overall impact and, similar to Malbranque, he is at least a recognised Premier League player that a new boss would be happy enough with.
- Kieran Richardson, 5m, July 2007
From: Manchester United
Now: Sunderland
Old team-mate of Keaneās was a surprise purchase due to his love of the trappings of the game ā a trait the Cork man was said to dislike. Has spent time on the sidelines but, overall, it is difficult to say that the Black Cats have got value for money. Inconsistent performer.
- Andy Reid, 4m, January 2008
From: Charlton
Now: Sunderland
Ah, the cause clbre of recent times. How can you assess his impact at Sunderland? Superb end to the last campaign as he played a big part in them staying up, but he has struggled since then.
But is he worth the 4m? Thereās a fair case for debate either way.
- Phil Bardsley, 2m, January 2008
From: Manchester United
Now: Sunderland
Another Old Trafford graduate who Keane took a punt on earlier this year. A solid enough purchase who made a good instant impression. Similar to Andy Reid, good in keeping them up but has been poor enough subsequently.
- David Meyler, 150,000, July 2008
From: Cork City
Now: Sunderland
Very early days for Meyler, who is understood to be doing well at reserve level and has even made the first-team bench. Considering he wasnāt even a regular at Cork City, heās doing alright.
- Stern John, Undisclosed, January 2007
From: Coventry
Now: Bristol City (on loan from Southampton)
Journeyman striker who served his purpose in eight- month period, scoring a few goals here and there, before being dispatched to Southampton as part of deal bringing in Kenwyne Jones.
- Liam Miller, Free, August 2006
From: Manchester United
Now: Sunderland
Miller enjoys a bizarre relationship with Keane. Has been sporadically involved in the team since arrival; some great runs of form followed by exclusion most famously related to time-keeping. Now completely out of favour, but he did come for free in the first place.
- Roy OāDonovan, Undisclosed, August 2007
From: Cork City
Now: Dundee United (loan)
Difficult enough to assess as OāDonovan played more games than you would have anticipated in his first season after his arrival from Cork City. A bit off Premier League level, but before he had time to grow into it he was sent on loan to Dundee United. From a business point of view, though, they havenāt spent mad money on him.
- Stan Varga, Undisclosed, August 2006
From: Celtic
Now: Free Agent
Signed on a free by Keane after appointment. Played 20 games for the club but was purely signed for promotion purposes; never a factor in Premier League before release but no real financial damage done here.
- Graham Kavanagh, 500,000, August 2006
From: Wigan
Now: Carlisle (loan)
Brought in with the rest of the Irish as Keane responded to appointment by opening his contacts book to bring in anyone who was available. Contributed then, but has spent most of time on loan or injured since promotion.
- El Hadji Diouf, 2.5m, July 2008
From: Bolton
Now: Sunderland
Another player who brings baggage with him that has had a falling out with Keane already. Everyone knows heās talented, but still a risky enough purchase due to his questionable temperament. A man-management challenge for sure and not a successful buy on evidence so far.
- Marton Fulop 500,000, January 2007
From: Spurs
Now: Sunderland
Brought in on loan originally before permanent deal in January '07. Played 13 games since then and nearly left club in summer before move to Stoke fell through.
- Anthony Stokes, 2m, January 2007
From: Arsenal
Now: Sheffield United (loan)
Fought off Charlton and Celtic to land Stokes, but he has failed to set the world alight at the North East of England. Had disciplinary run-ins with Keane, who went on to send him on loan to Sheffield United in August. Jury still very much out.
- Nick Colgan, Free, July 2008
From: Ipswich
Now: Sunderland
Brought in for goalkeeping back-up and to help out with a bit of coaching. Hard to put his capture into any great context; he came for nothing after all.
- Dickson Etuhu, 1.5m, July 2007
From: Norwich
Now: Fulham
Recruited for the Premier League after good season in Championship with Norwich City but failed to make big impact. Moved out this summer to make room for new arrivals.
- Ian Harte, Free, August 2007
From: Levante
Now: Unattached
Yet another old contact who Keane took a punt on but didnāt work out. Harte played eight times before being released; again, he may not have cost anything apart from wages but still a misguided decision.
- Andy Cole, Free, August 2007
From: Unattached
Now: Retired
Another old buddy brought in but made no impact before being sent to Burnley as his career wound to a close. Pointless addition but, then, he could argue it was a cheap enough gamble.
- Paul McShane, 2.5m, July 2007
From: West Brom
Now: Hull (loan)
Another example of Keane buying the Irish man of the moment.
Alas, McShaneās reputation plummeted after nightmare year on the Wear. Still, loan move to Hull has proved he can be moulded into an effective player at this level ā albeit at right-back.
- Danny Higginbotham, 2.5m, August 2007
From: Stoke
Now: Stoke
An expensive buy from Stoke after promotion who struggled to adapt into the heart of the defence alongside McShane, with Jonny Evans brought in on loan to save the day in January. Returned to Stoke this summer at a considerable loss.
- Russell Anderson, 1m June 2007
From: Aberdeen
Now: Burnley (loan)
Brought in from the SPL but a waste of money as rarely fit to play a game. Loan stint at Burnley also ruined by injury. Unlucky, but still poor judgment from the manager.
- Jean Vyes Mvoto, 300,000, January 2008
From: PSG
Now: Sunderland
Who, you might say? Youngster was brought in from France as Keane looked to expand his scouting network but has yet to be deemed good enough to be involved in a first-team match.
- Pascal Chimbonda, Undisclosed, July 2008
From: Spurs
Now: Sunderland
When you sign Chimbonda, the baggage comes with it. Heās only been at the Stadium of Light a few months and heās been disciplined for going to a birthday party he shouldnāt have and expressed his desire to join Lyon. Lovely.
- Anton Ferdinand, Undisclosed (Est. 8m), August 2008
From: West Ham
Now: Sunderland
Another who is likely to improve the banter at the Christmas party, if not the standard of the defending. Capable player with erratic tendencies, who has been a member of leaky rearguard since joining.
- David Healy, Undisclosed (Est. 1.5m) August 2008
From: Fulham
Now: Sunderland
Brought in on what seems like a whim and has been discarded from the picture almost as quickly ā without even making a league start.
Another with questionable Premier League credentials, regardless of his Northern Ireland exploits. Waste of money if not going to be used in the team.
- Michael Chopra, 5m, July 2007
From: Cardiff
Now: Cardiff (loan)
A purchase that was derided by other managers ahead of Premier League tilt, but Chopra started off with a bang against Spurs. Not a sign of things to come, though, and off-the-field problems only exacerbated things. Now back at Cardiff on loan.
- Rade Prica, 2m, January 2008
From: Aalborg
Now: Sunderland
Debut goal hailed as a sign that Keane was now capable of bringing in cut-price bargains from abroad rather than an old pals act. Sadly, Prica subsequently proved to be well short of top class. Wasting in reserves now.
- Greg Halford, 2.5m, June 2007
From: Reading
Now: Charlton (Loan)
Disastrous purchase by Keane, who rowed with Reading backroom staff after feeling theyād sold him a dud. The player was quickly exposed at Premier League level and unlikely to play for club again with Keane in charge at the Stadium of Light.
when you have spent 75 million on 35 players in 3 years and the player rated your 6th best signing is David Connoly, you know you have made a monumental fuck up with someone elseās money

Youāll actually love this KIB (or I suspect you know what it says already!):
8. Craig Gordon, 9m, July 2007
Just noticed that Cisse was left out of that list
Could be due to his loan status?
Probably, Johnny Evans isnāt on it either but was mentioned. Think thats what confused me.

Fail to see how Jones is highly rated. 10 goals in 42 games is hardly to sort of form to attract the league leaders. Or then again maybe with Keane being so badā¦ Jones is a younger version of Heskey with the same limitations primarily he wont score enough goals.
Cisse has done well for Keane so far and will easily have more goals than Jones by the end of the season. Some pile of muck there. Chopra probably the worst in terms of money wasted. The Halford one is hilarious.
In RK Sunderlandās tour of Ireland before their first season up Halford was playing in one or two of the games v Bohs or Galway or someone. Jaysus he was muck even at that level. Got sold a pup there alright.
Anyone see the question on this last night on Q&A.
Not much to report apart from the absolute idiocy of the bloke who asked the question for the following reasons:
- For asking the question
- When asked for his opinion on it he said that Keane hasnāt enough good players at Sunderland and should move to one of the big clubs with more good players.

It is forward thinkers like him this country needs to get us out of our economic crisisā¦
Sure fuck Ireland altogether - lets give up on it and go and occupy somewhere a bit warmer where we can grow a few spuds
