Every county has that problem.
You’d think Shefflin might get involved with their under 20’s next year maybe after he wins a Kilkenny Intermediate championship.

Having the right guy and backroom team at under 20 level could be as important going forward for most counties, given the physical conditioning necessary to make the step up to senior level. Under 20 will become the new Senior Championship
Dodge said that about the good 21s team in 2015 and when they came in to seniors it was them making a show of the seniors with the conditioning
That’ll take some readjustment from a s&c perspective. Theres a huge difference between u20 and the old u21 level from a physical perspective. Current u20s from all counties are left in limbo for a year.
And lads championing the manager of the team who lost to Westmeath as his successor (although in fairness he did a decent job with Laois).
That’s the one strange factor. They are still regularly producing both All-Ireland finalists at schools/colleges level.
That’s a stupid post.
Leinster Colleges must be very weak.
Suppose the Munster Teams are wrecked after a tough Harty campaign then.
I’d say Eddie is a good man.
I remember they beat Dublin in the first round of the Under 21 in 2017 and Eddie was nearly in tears afterwards.
If Con O’Callaghan was playing for Dublin, you can be sure he’d have beaten that Kilkenny team on his own.
Yeah they gave Wexford a good beating in the Leinster final that year too (albeit a weak to moderate Wexford team). Beat Derry out the gate in the semi-final. He did a solid job with Laois but I’d still be leaning towards Henry Shefflin based on relative achievements so far if I was a Kilkenny man.
The 2014 minor final has been a watershed moment, Limerick mined Finn, Flanagan, Nash, P Casey, T Morrissey, Lynch from that team along with Paddy O Laughlin, R Hanley, La Touché Cosgrave, L Lyons who all went on to win 2 U21 AI comfortably beating KK in 2017 and all of the above have at least 1 senior AI medal and most of them 2. Not to mention Gillane who was an unused sub that day. Blanchfield looked a star in the making from that team but hasn’t really established himself, Conor Delaney is a fine player but not too many others from the KK team are standouts at senior, Browne, T Walsh and Murphy are the ones that come to mind.
He recovered very well from that defeat to be fair. An All-Ireland club with Cuala and he’ll have a great CV. Kilkenny are awash with potentially very good successors. Himself and Shefflin would be good appointments for a lot of the top tier counties.
Cody will get the quarter of a century out of it.
I can’t imagine a Kilkenny team sent out by anyone else.
What about Herity?
That Westmeath team were no mugs. It’s easy look at them and assume Kilkenny should walk over them but they got caught and it was used as a stick to beat him.
I doubt that. Time and tide…
Are some of the traditional kilkenny clubs struggling? Tulloran, Graigue Ballycallan, Clara, Carrickshock, Dunnamagin not producing much talent.
Tullaroan looked decent enough the last couple of years. Shane Walsh looks a very good club hurler and there’s another Tommy Walsh who’s a good full-back too?
Tullaroan had 3 starters in the Leinster final.
Yeah but beneath that even, say 14 to 18 . Seems to be very few from traditional clubs on county underage teams.
