You mean you’re in the Cody In camp until ye are beaten by a much better team again
Same here, everytime they win, we’ll keep him. Everytime they lose we’ll get rid of him
Wexford under Davy (in his 5th season) still haven’t beaten any Munster opposition or Galway in the Championship. Bottom line, Wexford are a soft touch for all the so called Tier 1 counties. They all expect to beat Wexford. If Kilkenny had contrived to lose to Wexford last Saturday, there probably would have been renewed calls in Kilkenny for Cody’s head.
Parkinson has no class.
He is gone right quiet now, that mouthy lad.
He wouldn’t want to go looking in the u20 hurling panel #kildare
Don’t mind Parkinson. He’s only an owld Tippo anyway.
I’ve a feeling tfk will end up on twitter again
someone call the feds there and give them the heads up
Just on the theme of Kilkenny ‘are back’ - what is the level of expectation in the county at the moment amongst informed hurling people for the short to medium, even long term? With no U20/21 All Ireland since 2008 and not really in the mix at that grade since 2008, supply lines are clearly not what they once were.
There have been some good days/big scalps/one off ambushes since the last All Ireland final win of 2015 but some real lows and plenty of bad beatings as well. In fairness, while Wexford lack of killer instinct and pressing the self destruct button on Saturday was a big factor, Kilkenny did show a lot of resolve and dug very deep. A big change in mood and character from the second half capitulation in the All Ireland semi final against Waterford and the winter of discontent that followed.
Good questions.
After 2020 saw Kilkenny lose a 16 point lead against Dublin and collapse against Waterford, there were very very obvious questions about morale. Last Saturday at least answered those questions.
No one is getting carried away in the slightest. The Kilkenny backs are not settled and Pádraig Walsh, for all his virtues, is not a centre back. But… There is a 50:50 chance of beating Dublin – no more – and making an All Ireland semi final. This eventuality would buy time for Conor Delaney (apparently gone back training this week) and a possible rejig at the back.
Friend of mine met one of the main Kilkenny players on The Parade Monday lunchtime. He was buzzing.
Medium term? Hard to say. The 2020 Minors are more than decent (although Pádraig Langton looks like being a massive loss for next Saturday evening – and maybe for the whole 2021 season). If the 2020 and 2021 Minors train on into three strong U20 teams, the county gets a big lift. And the 2020 U20s might not be too bad at all. But Wexford’s U20s losing to Kildare shows how stuff can go wrong, even with underage success.
Ah I’d give kk a much better than 50:50 chance against the dubs. I think the dubs will be hard beat, but they’ve no TJ , and I’d expect kk to take care of business. I’d say more 70:30. Be interesting to see how it’s priced.
I hear you – but I would always price in the difficulty of putting together back to back strong performances, a task all the more difficult when second day out is an outing as strong favourites. Kilkenny will be, in context, that bit vulnerable after the high against Wexford.
Meanwhile Dublin are likewise seeking back to back strong performances. But their task is that bit easier when second day out is as underdog.
Dubs have no chance against KK. If Galway played Dublin 10 times, they would win 9 times. They took Dublin for granted and paid the penalty. Nothing Dublin have done in the past few years scream serious team. Kilkenny will win by at least 7 points. You can bookmark this.
I’m finding it incredibly difficult to put any stock in minor county results since it changed to under 17. That’s across both codes. Kerry, Galway and Wexford last night have failed to build on “minor success”. I’d place far more value on schools, 3rd level, under 20 and club.
That being said I’d say the KK minors of 18 + 19 got more long term value out of their respective campaigns despite not winning any of the four finals they contested.
Yeah Dublin have only really scalped Galway under Mattie Kenny. They must match up well against them and his inside knowledge on his home county might be a factor in 2 big championship victories over Galway in the last 3 seasons. To be fair they’ve only had one crack off Wexford under Kenny and drew with them. But otherwise I expected a little bit more after his exploits with Cuala.
I wouldn’t back the dubs at any price to beat kk. I rewatched the game this morning. Galway missed three goal chances in the opening ten minutes which should have been points. They pucked ball after ball down on Liam rushe.
It was a terrible performance by Galway and even worse tactics.
We were truly dreadful
Ps my previous admiration for the apparent cerebral stoicism of SON has changed to vexation at him standing there like a drooling simpleton gawping on as the boat sailed steadily into the rocks like an Italian sea captain.
Shane is doing a fine job
