Disappointing to read an absolute hatchet job on the great Brian Cody by one of their own in today’s Examiner.
PM was it?
Yes.
Called for Cody to go and said he should have gone years ago.
Apparently Derek Lyng should have been given a go at it.
Is this the guy who slept with 1, 000 women?
Lyng is a handsome fella but I doubt he had time to sleep with that many women given the time he’s dedicated to hurling over the past 30 years
No that’s John Power.
Have you a “Derek Lyng where did it go wrong” story ???
Must be a real Ken Barlow of a lad.
No, but I know someone who does
That’s another brave article. Sticking his head above the parapet with plenty of snipers about.
Rings true to me at least.
I’m not convinced anyone could have wrung another half drop out of kk than Cody managed to 2018-present, but if the atmosphere in the camp is a problem, it’s time to move on I’d reckon.
I like the writer and even I hate him a bit for that piece because Cody is a living legend. A brave piece.
Cody has been so eloquent post match in defeat the last few seasons… Strictly on the book, its probably a sign of him mellowing which isn’t good for their chances really. It probably is time to go.
I’d hold out hope we might get Cody on the Sunday Game, could listen to the man all day and he would have unparalleled insight into all the modern era greats.
The article is grand but there is a notable omission that there is no bigger picture
They’ll have to put down a few years as a systems team and try to eke out an AI that way is the vibe I get.
Cody inside is a lovely player and very promising but relative to the great KK forwards, I don’t see an outstanding attribute and he takes too much out of the ball. TJ, at the elite level, might be done on recent evidence.
I don’t doubt Cody’s ability to draw out one-off big performances, but stitching it all together into an AI looks a long way off. That’s why I think they should probably change as they are never that far away due to tradition, dog and always having a certain standard of player.
Incorrect. It was a well constructed informed and intelligent piece with some high level prose to boot
He’s just asking the same question from a different angle is all. But it’s the same question at the end of the day.
He wants Cody out but like everybody else he can’t see an obvious successor at this time. I don’t think Lyng is the answer. DJ hasn’t the smarts and Henry is gone now for three years. It’s going to be a long hard three years up and down from Galway. It will open his eyes.
Meanwhile Kilkenny wait with Cody.
This was a lovely line.

I thought it was very unfair to Cody who is doing an absolutely brilliant job with an incredibly mediocre bunch.
They should be giving him a new 5 year contract if anything.
Asking about the whereabouts of Cody’s successor is a fools argument. Replace Cody in the morning, what happens then ? Find a lad to come in and put an arm around the shoulder of each player that feels the camp doesn’t have a great atmosphere ? Bressie would be your man there but I doubt very much it would produce any better performances from the team. The county board have neglected their responsibility in relation to development of under age hurling in the county for 15 years now. Take a visit to one of the underage development squads some weekend in Dunmore. Insights beyond roaring “2 hands on the hurl” are few and far between
This barren spell was always going to happen after what went on between '00 to '15.
For a county with a population of less than 100k what happened was even more freakish, tbh.
The worrying thing for me,is when growing up,we would always kinda string a couple of back to backs each decade and in the quiet periods, there always seemed to be a young lad coming through that was a generational talent and he’d go on with a decent team, win a Minor and get fast tracked in with the seniors for the league. And off he’d go.
That’s all dried up big time.We are winning fuck all underage for years and there’s no young lad to get you up off your seat coming either.
I wouldn’t be so quick to blame coaches either-they weren’t there years ago and still the superstar would surface.
(Maybe the problem could be we pissed off some divine entity for erecting that fucking abomination at the foot of John’s bridge.
Was it 2015 that was unveiled?)
Either way,we may sit back and chill out because this decade ahead looks a write off, unfortunately.
