Kilkenny GAA thread

Its amazing the way they just get fellas to open up on it.

The fact its not behind a paywall too is an extra bonus.

I’ve seen it all now….

As long as he’s hurling that’s all that matters

Odd to have 3 different lads from 3 different Kilkenny clubs on the management team? Presume all would have to be paid also

James Maher was coaching officer in KK for years then Clare I think. Been involved with WIT at Fitz level too. Think he was involved with Drom-Inch one year.

A disciple of Davy. Was with him in Clare and Wexford. I have a recollection of Hoban over KK minors or 21s in the past.

Seems a bizarre enough appointment for a club who wouldnt be short of fellas with hurling nous.

Maybe my good e-pal @Malarkey will be able to shed some light on it.

No comm-ent.

From what I heard of him he is/was an excellent GDA and a very good skills coach.

How did the AGM go?

Kilkenny Minors 2013 to 2016. Never involved at U21.

Jimmy Meagher was his coach, which is the connection.

Quiet. Subdued, understandably.

No much change. Only about 35 there. Club is not, some ways, in a great place.

Senior manager is ratified by Executive Committee. Had been done the previous Thursday evening.

Junior and Junior C management done by AGM – but a formality.

Poor turnout alright, thought ye would be getting close on a 100 to an AGM

He is decent and maybe better, in the right group.

Never knew that. Was living in Cashel the last I heard. As @Malarkey said, he’s been in with KK minors but I thought he had done a bit at U21 level? I’ll bow to your superior knowledge on that @Malarkey

There is a lot of uisce faoi thalamh.

Well, I could be misremembering – but think I am correct. U21/U20 management, from mid 2000s, went Michael Walsh to Richie Mulrooney to Brían Ryan to Eddie Brennan to DJ Carey to Derek Lyng.

You’re right I’d say. I think Maher may have helped in the background around 08-09 but nothing official. Probably as a continuation of his GDA role.

You are definitely correct on first three aspects. And probably on last one.

If Ballyhale are in a bad place then the rest of us may as well give up on it.
