It’s excellent, particularly the genuine contemplation of what if we had won in '98.

Little known of Dereks path includes being black listed from Kierans teams from U14. He actually was a genuine talent underage, good hands and striking but believe it or not, small and very flat footed. Anyway he had managed to push his way in first year very close to a starting position which was an achievement in itself given he was coming from a lowly junior club with no underage pedigree. Following the Final replay which was on a Saturday the squad reconvened back in Kierans where Dinner was served in the Mez, Derek being a boarder was well aware of how the food distribution worked and duely helped himself to a second dinner.
One of the coaching team spotted this (the one from Clara) and had a gross over reaction, swearing and blinding the chap would never wear a black n white jersey again.
It took Derek out of the window for any U14,16 and minor development and Emeralds were Roinn C in all those age groups at the time.
He progressed well at adult level with Emeralds and was part of the 98 U21 training squad, in '99 he slotted in for MK for the semi final against Antrim who was injured but retained his place for the final, his inter county debut(Dereks). Emeralds contested the Junior final in '99 and a year or 2 cutting his teeth at IC Intermediate put him back in the shop window and was a regular starter in the 2002 league campaign.

Apologies @Malarkey , meant to address you originally.

Back in the day,A small minority of those type
of mentors you would encounter underage, would be best described as reptiles. We all had experiences of them.Turbo Roasters with the charisma and personalities of frogs.
Thankfully most people who gave their time back then deserve huge credit for being altruistic and indeed holistic.Good people.

Id like to see Michael Rice in as his No.2.I think they would gel well together.

Best of luck Derek and hopefully Eddie,in time, will regret his David Moyes comment.A woeful spake.:grinning:

Can’t make the big day in Windgap today due to having to go to Limerick . Bound to be a bit of needle, let’s hope both sides keep it between the ditches.
‘Hon d’Lockes!

Windgap 2-19
The Lockes 2-17

Good game, passed without incident.
Might be the biggest crowd Windgap ever saw for a game.

Actually a great spot to watch a match

Jaysus we’d want to be beating Windgap

I thought we did well to keep with them. At one point in the second half we were 7 down but clawed it back. Windgap are alright. They’ll have a rattle at it this year.

It is but the hill is woeful if your playing on it.

Windgap are ok to be fair, wouldn’t be surprised to see them in contention at the closing stages of the championship.

Cringe award for the day goes to local radio KCLR who broadcast the match live :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Did Kilkenny Community Radio also broadcast the game?

Not sure, I may have confused the two actually. Can happen in a City with multiple media outlets.

They did, KCLR didn’t.

Thumbs down :-1: for “KCR” in that event.

A decision made in poor taste.
