Wasn’t at it.
But you know the one I’m on about.
Oh I do. I remember the Herald gave it half a page once word travelled and people at work asking about it. Awks.
Junior final should be a right game today. Freshford lost last year’s final and windgap the year before to be & whites when they were favourites. So lot of pressure on windgap today.
Heard Jack Doyle is playing a handball match this morning at 10am which is a mad one!
Freshford have a lot of big names and everyone thought they’d go straight back up last year but I’m not that convinced by them, sort of fluked a win v galmoy.
Windgap seem more steady and reliable so I think they might win it.
Is auld power involved with teams in his adopted club I wonder?
Looks like he’s playing a 4-wall world doubles semi today.
That’s serious business.
Would agree that Windgap are a more balanced outfit and I think they’ll get the job done. They’ll surely have a plan to stymie James Maher, and if they can keep him relatively quiet Lachtains will struggle to put up a big score. Would rather see Lachtains win but think it could be Windgaps day.
John Power is involved with their second team as far as I know.
Junior final level at half time. Windgap better team, but landy has had 5 or 6 wides. Purcell on the edge of the square is causing havoc
This story does not add up. The Hogans could have ‘derogated’ and played from U14 with Bennettsbridge. Same as Tommy Walsh derogated and Michael Rice derogated and many others derogated.
Robert Lennon, for instance, was from Pigeon Park (a Danesfort townland) but derogated to hurl with Bennettsbridge.
Thought I heard on the radio other night parish rule became an issue at the age of 12 and he wrote to the bishop about it. They got him in the end anyway. Lad like him, it probably dragged out.
Lachtains win by 6 points. 2 goals first 10 minutes of 2nd half changed the game.
Windgap will have big regrets, at least 6 missed placed balls. Must be devastating to be so close 3 years in a row
If the Hogans had wanted to play for Bennettsbridge, they could have. But they were only young fellas at the time. Derogation had been available from the early 1990s.
Lot of back fitting always in these books. The man was/is a legit genius on the hurling field. He probably told it the neatest way he could.
More interesting thing about the interview the other night was Cody and his effect on his confidence whilst still prime. He was coming on at times later years and shooting on sight, like it was the ultimate fuck you.
What does he say in the book about it?
Or is it out yet?
At the time there was stories that the two lads were crying in the back of the car going off to Danesfort. I haven’t a clue if they were true or not. The mother was from a hurling family in Bennettsbridge you see and she was definately dead set against it. Father Callan of course.
The two Connellans that just won a county final with Thomastown are from Tullaherin, born, bred and living there, and there’s not a word about it. So this ‘derogation’ thing must exist.
The Indo printing the sit the fuck down story again.
Must be a shortage of good copy in it.
Sounded like Lachtains were the better team on KCLR. The commentary team were baffled that Landy didn’t get a red card with about 10 minutes to go. Windgap managed to curtail James Maher, but Cathal O’Leary did a lot of damage instead.
Why are they not playing with Tulloran so?
Yes Maher got 3 from play but not overly influential. Not sure there was much in the landy incident. O Leary was good and Liam hickey a half time sub made a difference.
Really freshford must have been delighted to be level at half time after windgap missing so much.
Bennettsbridge is in the parish of Tullaherin. But Tullaherin church is closer to Thomastown than Bennettsbridge. In fact it’s even closer to Gowran. Tullaherin is only a crossroads whereas Bennettsbridge is a small town. Tullaroan is miles away.
