Kilkenny Hurling

They’ll leave him there for the final. The knives will be out though if Kilkenny lose the final. Look what happened to Kevin Fennelly after losing the 1998 All Ireland Final.

How many final victories had Kevin Fennelly managed Kilkenny to prior to 1998 jeff?

Considering where we were at all grades at the start of the year, this is going swimmingly

We led from start to finish.
Couldn’t be bothered reading the other two threads.

God that was a satisfying victory. The workrate is just unbelievable. TJ leading that charge. Mullen is a class act. Limerick didn’t know what hit them in the first 20 minutes. Wexford will produce a similar intensity today with Tipp and Tipp won’t like it either. I’d love to know the tackle count number. Every time a Limerick got possession and tried to turn he was met with a shot.

Limerick had more tackles.

Did they, surprised with that.

Here’s some stats…

Limericks lack of a top class scoring forward really hurt them

Gillane is a top forward in fairness but if you stop him, the rest are pretty limited as forward threats.

However, they bring traits that are needed to win that are probably lacking in Cork and maybe Tipp.

If Limerick could unearth another serious forward, they would be very formidable.

If they bring O’Neill through properly in the next couple of years he will be a massive addition.

How is Mulcahy limited? He’s one of the best forwards in the game. They played him too deep yesterday.

Gillane plenty ability alright but seems a bit brainless when it comes to going for scores

Yup.

He is very good but not a top notch forward imho.

Only second year at this level and thought he did remarkably well given that everyone knew how dangerous he is.

I hear the well are trying to poach him

It’s completely wrong and he should be left alone with Crecora/Manister to bring them on.

Hard to judge it properly after a year of three massive wins and three losses but Peter Casey this year was definitely a disimprovement on Séamus Flanagan last year. Just aside from his overall performance this year, you’re sacrificing a fair bit of size and speed up front just by having him on the pitch. Flanagan has both of those in abundance.

Having said all that, the line that has threatened systems failure this year is the half forward line, yet no shakeup ever happened. Hayes and Hegarty are always liable to shoot a few horrendous wides and the scorer of the three, Morrissey, is miles off where he was last year, and has been since the start of the league.

But casey was brilliant in the munster final and Flanagan way off the pace this year
