Galway and tip were still quite a bit off Kilkenny’s level.
Limerick and Clare were very poor also in 2015 but seem to be in a much better position now compared to where tip and Galway are, especially considering the management changes and player retirements.
Cunningham seems to have been hard done by here, but there are probably other facts to this story that we don’t know.
Sylvie Linnane did seem to know something on up for the final when he was not very endorsing of Cunningham
Limerick?
Joe Canning is bigger than Galway hurling.
Donal Og?
No, non-Cork.
Have you heard about the carry on in Cork
Truth. My view… he culled Kavanagh and Regan without much remorse and Moore and Collins were next for the chop.
I meant Donal Og efforts when in Cork when dropped
Yeah bits of it - not good. Next year may be a car crash.
There could be fireworks alright
Donal og and Davy
Cork won two All Irelands after the advent of player power.
When are you considering the start of player power?
The strike was 2007-08
Ah i can’t say i have much insight to that as i was away but while he wasn’t happy, he was completely culled and that was probably the right thing to do for the manager.
But i have seen it at club level and other teams i’ve been around. I know of one high profile team where a selector got into the heads of one of the players which led to getting rid of another selector. Ao.e people are just spineless.
No it wasn’t you muppet.
What age are you?
First Cork players strike was winter 2002.
Poor old Bertie Og got caught in the middle of it. A gentleman.
They did, but that strike in 02 led to another in 08 which Cork hurling hasn’t recovered from yet imo. I’m not blaming the players solely but something isn’t right down there for a long time and the bitterness and division the multiple strikes created most definitely hasn’t helped.
Ah, you are right. Gerald resigned in 2009.
From Wikipedia
On 10 March 2009, McCarthy eventually resigned after four months of severe pressure, having received death threats
That is the truth of it. If you can’t inspire your players then your time is up. Cunningham digging his heals in thereafter & moaning about his removal then is IMO senseless on his part.
Players put in a serious effort to represent their County, if they feel the man in charge after 3 seasons isn’t up to the job then they are hardly going to sit back & face into 12 more months of sacrifice.
When the players are not buying into a Coaches methods then its best a parting happens, in reality the Coach as opposed to 30 plus players must go.
Anthony Cunningham is a nice man, a very very nice man, a gent. But he’s had his shot and the players don’t want him. Everything else is just hearsay and innuendo. He had to go. He had his say. So be it.
