What the fuck is your problem with Moore and Glennon? Moore might be past his best but I doubt there’s a fitter player over 30 in Ireland. Puts your pot bellied overrated lot to shame anyway. Plus he is from Turloughmore and no Galway team has won an AI without their presence (@ironmoth would reluctantly agree, even though he hates the cunts).
So what if Glennon has had a few off the field problems, he’s hardly the first and plenty of them in your own county.
Glennons high watermark was from midfield in the 2009 minor final. Epic performance. He’s lost his way since. I always thought he’d be a direct replacement for damian hayes. Bags of talent imo.
Glennon is not big enough for inter-county, because with his diminutive stature he’d need to be of the Richie Hogan / Damien Hayes mold - I haven’t seen it yet. He’s tenacious alright, but can he deliver in tight big games. Also, when I think of “big day” midfielders, I think of someone like Pat Malone. Tough, clever, and a good distributor.
As for Moore, long since passed it, and found out badly last year. Struggled with the basics, like picking the ball.
Hopefully both prove you wrong. I agree though its a make or break year for a few lads as starters anyway, Glennon, Joseph Cooney and Shane Maloney. Aidan Harte needs to really establish himself this season as well, that’s potentially a very good half back line.
As for Moore, its hard enough being a bit player coming on for short spells like he did last year. Age isn’t on his side, but he is a specialist corner back, and we are not exactly overstaffed in that department.
Galway reached the All Ireland finals of 2001, 2005 and 2012 in the first year of the respective tenures of Noel Lane, Conor Hayes and Anthony Cunningham. I’d expect the new incumbent at the very least to achieve that much this year.
Conor Hayes replaced Noel Lane after the 2002 championship. I am of the opinion Lane should have been left on as manager as he had Galway playing with real fire in their bellies. Hayes gets credit rightfully for 2005, but also oversaw two of our worst outings, 2004 and 2006 against the Cats.
