So championship formats should be changed every single year based on the current state of play? Thats what your advocating? Thomasâs were in an all ireland final last year
Well the format should be changed anyway because itâs not fair. Thomasâ got to the All Ireland in 2019 precisely because of the format where they only had to play an Ulster team to get to the final where they were duly hammered
Why is it not fair. Why do one of the weakest provincial champions in recent decades, the munster champions, get a bye into the semis?
County champions in Munster have to first play a provincial championship to get into a semi final. Galway clubs only have to win Galway and they get into a semi. Fairly clear that isnât fair
Over the past 20 years, or 10 so if you prefer that, more galway clubs have won all irelands than munster clubs. Therefore its harder to win galway than it is to win munster, given the poor quality of teams to come out of munster proven by their lack of titles. So why then do the munster have to champions get a bye after an easier run?
Serious case of Munsteritis here, always looking for short cuts, its the Healy Ray way
Its easier to win titles when you are catapulted straight into a semi final
What? The comparison is between the Galway champions and the Munster champions, they enter the title race at the same stage
You could argue the standard across the board is actually higher now than in the past. There is just no stand out team a la Sarsfields, Athenry, Portumna, etc.
A Galway club will win AI club titles when they have a club good enough to do so. Right now they donât hence they have been losing semi-finals and the odd final.
Donât be coming in here with your common sense.
The history of Galway hurling is the IC team does better when there is no dominant club side.
Has there been a dominant club for all but 5 of the 130 odd years?
No, not by a long shot. The 80s for example were extremely competitive, I think there were 8 different champions.
Could a potential switch to midfield be on the cards for Annaghdowngaaâs Damien Comer?
Last Sunday in Letterkenny, Adrian Varley was introduced as a sub in place of Ronan Steede, with Comer switching from centre forward to midfield.
This switch worked out very well vs Donegal, with Comer thriving out in the middle of the field, with his powerful frame, he is a great man to contest & win a high ball.
With Tom Flynn & FiontĂĄn Ă Curraoin making their way back from injury, could we be seeing more of the Annaghdown man around the middle of the field?
Has Steede been cast aside already?
Replaced early twice this season. Looking more of a squad player than a starter
Dragged back early from a long club campaign, youâd hope he wasnât tossed that quickly.
Not tossed. PJ is managing his minutes with his eye on the long season ahead
Youâd hope so.
