King Henry of Galway (Part 1) šŸ‘‘
The first round losers say, Offaly v Laois, Antrim v Cork play each other.

Losers in provincial semis play each other, so lets say Tipp v Kilkenny, Clare v Dublin.

The winners of these matches play each other e.g tipp v Laois, Cork v Dublin. The winners of this round play the losers of the provincial championships, say Tipp v Galway, Waterford v Dublin.

Provincial winners Wexford and Limerick would await the winners in the All-Ireland semi finals before the 96 rematch in September.
Thereā€™s a change to the format this year.

Ah, I see. Theyā€™ve finally sorted out the quirk whereby it was better to lose a quarter final and play a fellow weaker QF loser than get defeated a round further on.
Its coming, we just need to keep the momentum going. Not sure who Iā€™d prefer in the qualifiers, I must admit I have no idea how it works this year, when teams come in, etc. Bearing that in mind, Iā€™m unsure if Iā€™d prefer an Offaly or Tipperary, but it needs to be in Oā€™Moore Park.

Just not fucking Antrim again.
If Cahir Healy and Zane Keenan were playing yesterday would you be celebrating a Laois win now MBB?

No, Iā€™d probably have finished the celebrating sometime on Sunday

Would james young still do a job for ye as a sub

Probably, but itā€™d be an awful job.

From about 8.40, decent discussion on Galway from Off the ball yesterday. Conor Hayes kinda hits the nail on the head, the Leinster Championship maens jackshit to Galway unless weā€™re playing Kilkenny.

Feel free to fuck off back out of it then if you like.

Anyone at the game that can confirm a few bits for meā€¦

Did Canning at any stage play outside the half forward line?

Did Cloonan and Canning have any interaction during the game? For example I assume Cloonan is seen as the forwards coach, was he giving instructions to Canning?

Is David Burke still worth his place?

 1. He literally stood out at centre half forward for a bit before half time, got ball in hand once but was hooked and horsed out of it. Other than that, I donā€™t think so bar maybe a further very brief spell at wing forward after half time.

 2. Yes, before the start of the second half. Galway were back out well before Laois and Cloonan strolled onto the pitch and conversed with Canning. Plenty of pointing and gesticulation and stuff.

But Cloonan stood in front of the Galway bench on the '45 in line with the half back line in the first half and moved to the '45 in the other half after the interval. So he seemed more intent on monitoring the defensive area from what I could tell. He stands with his hands clasped behind his back with his head and upper body leaning forward. A strange pose.

 1. Donā€™t think he touched the ball. The Laois wing back launched over 2 monster points too. So possibly not.

Thanks Pal, thatā€™s exactly the type of feedback I wanted.

Cloonans career was ended with a pretty bad back injury so his stance may have something to do with that.

I get the feeling Canning with have a completely new role come the KK/OY game.

Care to share your musings with the rest of us KP? Kilkenny love double marking JC when heā€™s left alone at the edge of the square because they realise they can stop the ball getting into him and Galway will pull a third man into midfield to try and win the ball in the middle.

Canning floated around all the forward positions, but Laois always had an eye on him and he never featured, didnā€™t drift out at all. I didnā€™t see much of cloonan I was standing on the opposite side. I think I recall Burke hitting a poor wide under pressure in the first half. He contributes nothing unfortunately.

Centre back?

I just thing Canning played a very effective role with Portumna in the third midfielder areaā€¦ Keeping him inside is just too predicable and Glynn (raw and all as he is) can act as a target man at 14 if he gets intelligent ball.

His lack of form is mental rather than physical. I think we have seen the best of him sadly.

I wouldnā€™t be overly concerned about Cannings perceived lack in formā€¦

The real problem up to now is that too much was expected out of him in Galway and generally he delivered on this. However in 2014 Conor Cooney appears to be stepping up to the plate, Johnathon Glynn is offering another ā€˜targetā€™ option so suddenly its not all about Joe and this is good for Galway.

So for example when Cody studies Galway, its not all about Joe nowā€¦ Glynn will be a new proposition for JJ, a big tall awkward gent with a decent paw will create a new focal point which will allow Joe to roam elsewhere.

Galways problem is pace and this is what will prevent us winning games. Flynn and Mannion are nice additions but not sure how theyā€™ll cope in the crunch of championship hurling.

JJ has seen off more big tall awkward gents than most. Iā€™d say heā€™d be far more troubled by a lad constantly on the move

That fucks Joe so

I am sure JJ will look after the house as best he can but he hasnā€™t met a customer like Glynn recentlyā€¦ Webster or Oā€™Halpin maybe??
