The Great One speaks
Comer: “we have aspirations to go really far with this team”

Galway’s Damien Comer. INPHO
Damien Comer is confident that Galway can challenge for a place in the All-Ireland series.

Last weekend’s victory in Armagh has earned the Tribesmen a home clash with Derry this weekend. Win that and they are just one win away from the All-Ireland quarter-finals.

“Of course, you can only look to the next game but we have aspirations to go really far with this team,” Comer says in The Irish Times.

“You hear it said sometimes as well that Galway don’t have the bottle anymore, but I think we’ve been showing plenty of that. Especially to finish out Armagh in Armagh.

“It’s all about recovery now between games. We don’t mind that and we’re happy to be out again this weekend, and we’ll take lots of confidence from beating Armagh in the way we did.

“Kevin has instilled a lot of belief into this team. He knows how good we are. He’s just trying to feed it though the team, and we’re starting to believe how good we are.

“We’ve shown it by putting it up to some of the best teams in challenge matches lately, and now in the qualifiers as well. We still feel that if it wasn’t for a few unlucky breaks against Mayo we’d be in a Connacht final.

“And that was a real suckerpunch. We felt that game was there for the taking and just a few of the breaks, a few mistakes, cost us. You need those on the day.”

The West’s Awake.

Interesting to see the country’s three main cities - Dublin, Cork and Galway - are still in contention for the Double.

Derry, unlike Armagh, put it up to Donegal and will present a much stiffer test for the footballers. Home advantage is a massive plus though and I’m hoping that might just swing it for us. Doubt Shane Walsh will make this but should be OK should we make the QFs.

As for the Hurlers, season starts now. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the last we see of them in Leinster

Walsh could have played last week but the doc felt it was a small bit too soon for him.expect to see him take some part next weekend

Niall Burke was ordering coffee ahead of me today*… Jes he’s a big man. What’s the deal with him? Is he still injured?

*Unassuming demeanour which was understandable as the barrista is a polish lady and would know him from Adamski.

I hope you went up to the barista and fucked her out of it for not knowing who he was. He probably gets coffee in there every day, having never lost the common touch. Not a usual sight these days.

I couldn’t be bad to her mate she has a wonderful smile for me any morning I am in.

I heard Donnellan picked up a hamstring injury in a club game last weekend. Nothing major I’d say as he played the full game for Pearses in their defeat to Gort.

Giddy

Just got a text saying our Junior game scheduled for this Friday evening has been cancelled until “after the races”.

Races fever has hit Galway, can the senior hurling camp escape this deadly bout?

For which races will Joe be presenting the cup this year?

That’s a great photo

That’s a clamping

That could be a huge result for Galway. Since the introduction of the backdoor era in 1997, its only their 4th quarter final win from 14 appearances and the first in Thurles. They’ve been much better in semi finals in that time period, winning their last three.
