World champion Scotty Dog Mitchell survived an almighty scare from New Zealand’s Craig Caldwell in today’s first match, winning 3-2, after being 2-1 down.
Caldwell knocked in 9 180s to Scotty Dog’s four and both players averaged nearly 93. Superb stuff.
Peter Sajwani and Sam Hewson locked in a deciding set battle as I type. Another Lakeside classic, this one.
Clutch finishing from Sajwani to clinch the win. Compelling match, that. Sam Hewson looked overawed by the stage in the first two sets but launched a great comeback and was unlucky to lose out in the end. He’ll be back.
What a character Sajwani is. Gave Little Richard Ashdown a big goozer on the lips at the end. The Swedish number one is backarooney, just as he promised he would be last year, and now takes on Mark “Geezer” McGeeney in Round 1 proper.
It’s well known that women have poor hand/eye co-ordination compared to men, but the top ladies’ darts players such as Fallon Sherrock, Lisa Ashton, Deta Hedman and Anastasia Dobromyslova have the best hand/eye co-ordination of any women in the world, and hand/eye co-ordination better than 99% of men.
These are undoubtedly women you would trust to drive a car safely. In fact they could be brain surgeons, if they had the intellect to go through all the years of study needed to become one.
Cant wait to see the count in action, last time i seen him he played on despite having had a stroke, thats the kind of dedication you only get in the BDO
Unbelieveable. Some shock to see Fallon dumped out. But Anne Louise Peters played a great match.
Great to see the Count has gone back to his classic walk on with the cape and the plastic bats being thrown into the crowd after discarding it for a few years.
