Lance Armstrong

Usain Bolt is a phenomenon. Have you any proof heis doping?

Besides, he doesnā€™t go as Sky Bolt, and I couldnā€™t name a single one of his sponsors outside of a sportswear company.

Ah no shure his heart was as big as a cows!

agree.

I believe you were backing a cyclist yourself last year!

same applies to cycling fans.

what is the point in following something that is clearly not a real ā€˜contestā€™ in sporting terms.
how can people really care who wins a race when the winner will always have a shadow cast over them, it makes no sense to me, its not really sport.

Really? Pretty sure heā€™s still in the Nike stable.

Who was the cyclist who had the huge lungs and they were saying that was why he was such a good cyclist?

Indurain. a heart as big as a cows apparently

Think there were a load of facts about Indurain, like his resting heart rate was just a notch above dead and shit like that.

Bruyneel sacked by Radio Shack today. Earlier today Cancellara came out and questioned if Bruyneel could continue in the team. Said he now knows how Discovery could put nine men on the front in mountain stages. This is the same guy who rode five years for Riis in CSC and started his career in Fassa Bortola.

Sean Yeats one of the Sky main men who was DS in 2005 when Lance won his last Tour said that he never saw anything untoward. Said that all he did was get up, go for a spin and drive the team car. This is the same guy that rode with Lance in Motorola.

Devolder and Vandenbroeck who rode for Discovery in 2005 said they never saw anything dodgy either.

Admitted drug cheat David Millar said that honoray president of the UCI Hein Verbruggen. who categorically stated that Armstrong never never never took drugs should be removed.

Rudi Pevenage, Jan Ullrichā€™s guru said that what Ullrich did was mickey mouse compared to the gangsters surrounding Lance. Said that the stress of competing with Lance turned him into a fat bastard.

Rotten to the core. And nothing will change until the sponsors walk.

Probably hit the nail on the head there. Same as everything in the world.

In all fairness if there is to be any hope for cycling they have to disband the UCI and start again. FFS Mcquaid refused to say anything today because the lawyers are looking at it.

Cracking post.

The Observer holds nothing back tomorrow

I reckon he has a brilliant future ahead of him as a pornstar anyway, with his star waning and his wonderful persona. He has his stage name already and all he needs is a catchy first film like ā€œItā€™s all about being rode like a bikeā€.

Phi has seen the light, kind of.

Tv commentator says heā€™s been made to ā€œlook like a foolā€
Phil Liggett, who has in the past criticized USADAā€™s case against Lance Armstrong and often defended the Texan, has given his first reaction since the anti-doping agency released their 1,000 page submission into doping in the US Postal team.
Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour titles by USADA after a damning investigation that included testimony from 26 individuals, 11 of whom were former teammmates.
Liggett has been a constant supporter of Armstrong through the riderā€™s career and through numerous doping allegations. He admitted to not having read the report, with his information having been received second-hand through news sources. He told Cyclingnews: ā€œIt is a witch hunt, lets face it, because they only want Lance. Call it what you like, the fact is they only have one ambition and thatā€™s to get Lance.ā€
Liggett, who has commented on the Tour de France for a number of television networks in a career that has spanned 40 years and 35 Tours, added that he was still a supporter of Armstrong, despite the fact the revelations around Armstrongā€™s doping had made him ā€˜look like a foolā€™.
ā€œIf heā€™s been taking drugs then of course itā€™s right [to sanction] but they still lack the absolute proof as far as Iā€™m aware. I still am a supporter of Armstrong. Whatever way we look at it Lance has been good for the sport. No one can condone, if itā€™s finally proved, that heā€™s ridden his whole career on drugs. I had an email from an eminent scientist from the US yesterday. An SMS actually. It said if Lance Armstrong had taken the drugs outlined by USADA heā€™d have been dead ten years ago. Heā€™s an eminent scientist and a very intelligent man. I donā€™t know his name, the SMS came from a secondary person.ā€
In August, Liggett had claimed that witnesses had been paid for giving evidence against Lance Armstrong in the agencyā€™s investigation into doping and conspiracy ā€“ the veteran commentator still appeared to defend Armstrong, regardless of whether he had cheated. Liggettā€™s claims were immediately rebuffed by USADA.
ā€œHe has been the best athlete in the world and the drugs have not made him that much better, Heā€™d have probably still have won on a level playing field and still been the champion. Heā€™s also brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people and no one seems to have taken this into account and introduced a lot of bike riders into the sport and into cycling as a pastime.ā€
Liggettā€™s assertion that Armstrong had brought happiness is at odds with USADAā€™s report, in which the disgraced cyclist is accused of helping to run a systematic doping regime, with intimidation an employed tactic.
ā€œOf course you feel cheated. As a commentator youā€™ve made these guys super heroes and in frankness itā€™s made you see a bit of a fool to say the least but we were only fools in retrospect.ā€
Liggett added that Tyler Hamiltonā€™s book, The Secret Race, had been an awakening. Having criticized Hamilton in the past, Liggett said: ā€œI donā€™t believe itā€™s possible to write a book like Tyler Hamilton has done without it being the truth. I donā€™t think itā€™s possible. Everyone has read the book. There has to be a lot of truth in book but at the end of the day there has be a shadow of doubt.ā€
ā€œBut Iā€™ve no reason not to support Armstrong. I donā€™t know. He told me to his face that he didnā€™t and I had no reason not to believe it. Donā€™t forget, on television we donā€™t actually mix with the riders. I call the pictures as I see them.ā€
In August, Liggett also stated that he would retire if Armstrong had been proven as a drug cheat. The UCI has to either ratify or appeal USADAā€™s case but Liggett said that his future had already been decided by future contracts.
ā€œI canā€™t [retire] because of contracts that have been signed that will not let me walk away. If I had no contracts signed Iā€™d be ready to give up the sport now. Iā€™ll be 70 years old next year and there are still things I want to do with my life. I canā€™t walk away because of contracts Iā€™ve signed until 2016. I do find it depressing at times.ā€

Itā€™s a LOL article in fairness.

Great doco on this last night on Aussie TV (4 Corners - search for it on abc.net.au ) - Liggett was squirming.

The evidence of this Irish girl, Emma Oā€™reilly (US Posts masseusse) was damning to say the least.

The administrators of cycling are still in a paralell universe. McQuaid thinks its all behind us. The head of Austraklian cycling, Klaus Muller, was on TV yesterday saying how cycling handles drug chetaing much better than most other sports. When asked specifically what sports, he of course declined to answer.

Thanks Fitzy, must check it out. There was a programme on BBC Radio five live tonight as well. Did not hear it but the story is being flogged to death at this stage. I must say though that Hamiltonā€™s book is an eye opener even for a cynic like me.
