Fitzhenry was by far and away the best conventional shotstopper with his hurley although he did get plenty of opportunity to show it off. His profile was further added to by his ability to get goals from frees and pens.

Donal og was the best with regard puckouts and organising around him. He was very average otherwise.

Cummins I think only ever made one mistake in championship. He was very dependable. He wasn’t the best shot stopper in the conventional sense but was the bravest and used his body to stop many goal bound attempts. He also had the best presence around the goal.

Fitzy was good but a level below Cummins and Fitzhenry.

Fitzhenry showed his puck out ability in the game against KK in 04 where a number of senior players reportedly took it on themselves to come up with the game plan. Beyond that his career was spent following instructions to land high puckouts down on our small half forwards before the ball inevitably came straight back at him.

They were also the tail end of the era before massive bosses and light sliothars where it was still possible to save a well struck shot.

I agree. Great shot stopper, great presence. Cummins was good but fell off a cliff near the end. Both well ahead of the rest.

Davy was a great goalie, I’d rate him a lot higher than Fitzhenry Just because of the amount of huge games he played and excelled in, Cummins had it all though, he was the best, Ogie was a mediocre shot stopper but the rest of his game was flawless.

Ogie was a mediocre shot stopper but the rest of his game was flawless.

When teams pushed up and stopped his short puck outs Cusack was clueless. A very overrated GK in reality.
