Tyrell would stand over a free on his right side. He became extremely efficient on his left sided range in particular that swivel strike he developed.
I remember watching Cumminsā Laochra Gael and theres a clip from the 95 U21 final where he strikes a free or puck out. It looks like heās hit it RHOT. I cannot find that clip anywhere. Do you remember seeing it?
John OāBrien was another LHOT/Backhand.
That swivel got him out of a lot of trouble.
It certainly did, in the days when you were still encouraged to clear your lines. Wouldnāt be allowed now as not a percentage play.
JOāB is lefthanded. Never saw him take a free or a sideline but I would guess a backhander.
Do not remember that Cummins clipā¦
Yea he was a backhander. Much stronger off his right side. Rarely struck off his left but had a wonderful dummy handpass where heād go left and strike of the hurley on his left hand side. Scored a great goal v Galway one year in the league.
Did you ever see JOāB strike a dead ball?
I canāt say I have. He would never have hit frees for Toomevara. you would have had the Dunnes, Wille Ryan and his borther Paddy on the frees through the year. @caulifloweredneanderthal might know if he ever did.
I would just be a bit cautious on this front. Colin Fennelly is strongly backhand orientated but would take a dead ball off his right side. Jamesie OāConnor was somewhat similar.
Have never seen him hit a free but Iām no greyhound. Ken Dunne would have been main free man for Toome Iād say?
This is a very informative discussion lads. Fair play.
Ken Dunne and Willie would have been during their glory years. Dunne was an excellent free taker. Rarely missed from any angle.
This topic is fascinating but complicated. You could not say TJ Reid hurls āwrongā butā¦ I am aware of at least two other lads in the same club who are righthanded, hurl lhot and take a free off left side ā if not with anything of TJās elegance.
Aisake Ć hAilpĆn hurled rhot and took a free off his right (forehand) side but is, I believe, from a photograph I once saw, lefthanded,
TJ hits frees off his left side. I would also say that he prefers his left side in general play
All true but completey at odds in the general scheme of things regards application of strong and guiding hands.
Fuck off.
The shape-changing stuff is a bore, as is the fake Tippo stuff
And die, if you like.
Huh?
Youāre the ones who keeps bringing up Tipperary mate. I havenāt mentioned Tipperary or Kilkenny in any of this
And we still have to learn off what side Conor Whelan strikes a free for Kinvara.
Fuck off, you autistic cunt.
No one is interested in anything you have to say.
