Browne won a munster final medal with tipp and a mcgrath cup. He also has more all stars than paddy bradley.
How many times did you see him play?
Great stuff, Canavan has double the all stars as Fitzgerald.
February 2016.
A handful, saw him knocking about in the reserve cup there one year. Itâs all ifs and buts with Browne, little substance there.
We arenât talking about Canavan or Fitzgerald.
Funny story, Maurice Fitzgerald hasnât had a Laochra Gael done on him yet.
Kerry were a total mess during the Munster championship in 2002, which is the only reason Cork won it.
They drew with Cork 0-8 apiece in a dreadful match and werenât focussed on the replay at all due to the death of the OâSe brothersâ father.
They got a few handy draws in the back door to build momentum and then made utter shit of Cork when they were taking things seriously in the All-Ireland semi-final.
No. Sad to see a guy capable of being an all time great, and playing at the highest level, grasping on to such a low level tournament as his only intercounty triumph.
I come from a low level county myself so I am certainly not being snobbish about such titles. I just felt that in Browneâs case that he was capable for so much better but couldnât reach that level through no fault of his own.
and the reason is fairly obviousâŚ
Well going by your criteria it conflicts a viewpoint widely held here.
Bradley was the real deal.
Browne was ifs and buts.
How is it ifs and buts. He won two all stars playing with a terrible team for the most part. You have to watch players play to rate them. You canât just look at a lad being from Tipp and decide that he wasnât great based on that
Until we rip up these ridiculously county boundaries and create franchises itâll never change sadly. And with the growing commitments being asked of players, those in smaller counties will give it a shot for a year or two and then just decide its not worth the hassle. Its already happening in hurling, and will in football to a greater extent over the next decade.
Browne got closer to winning a provincial medal with Tipp than Bradley did with Derry ffs
Youâre spot on with the second part of your argument.
What are you proposing with the first part? Amalgamate the lower level counties?
The all stars are my points exactly, the guy got two all stars while playing in very few serious matches in his entire career. Thereâs little substance to him as he never had to do it on an AI QF stage onwards or in a real provincial championship.
How many big games did Browne win Tipp?
How many big games did Bradley win Derry?
Bradley broke all sorts of records in his careers playing in the toughest provincial championship with the best defenders , the hype around Browne - a lad who never did it at the highest level is risible in context.
Nope, tear the entire thing up and start again.
Itâll never happen mind you. But there is no equality in having a competition where, for example, Leitrim with their resources are in competition with Dublinâs resources. The only way is to kill Your Darlings, and thatâll never happen sadly. And so weâll just continue to have what weâve always had, the game dominated by the same names.
That is like saying someone got closer to a Vauxhall Conference than a World Cup.
Paddy Bradley played in an All Ireland semi final as a teenager if I recall correctly. Browne rarely if ever played past June.
He wonât allow it iâd venture to guess. When you see some of the fellas who have made it on ots bananas.
You have to watch guys play to know how good they are
