Laochra Gael - Back, and to the left hand on top

I must look up the Tommy one. JJ done too. Just Cummins to go but Iā€™d doubt heā€™d do it though he has an interesting back story leaving Knocktopher and joining Blackrock down here in Cork.

Iā€™m thinking Ryan O Dwyer might make for an interesting program. He is a good character with a story to tell. Discarded by Tipp after playing both codes for them. Transferred to Dublin where he was central to the League & Leinster victories under Daly. I believe he was asked back to tipp around 2014 but turned them down. The harsh sending off v Cork in 2013 AISF. He got badly beaten up outside a night club in England with Maurice O Brien around 2014. His balance, coordination and speech were effected and it took him a long time to recover. He also won a championship with Crokes and has coached underage Dublin teams, Broadford in Meath and currently Fingallians. He has always been a bit wild on and off the pitch but is hugely popular in Dublin Hurling circles.

I like shows with lads who werenā€™t blessed with natural ability to set them apart. It almost comes easy for those lads, they hardly ever take the road less travelled.

Iā€™d like to see what set ODwyer apart to have the relative success he had with the Dubs

To be fair to Oā€™Dwyer also, the West Tipp lads like @Fat_Pox might confirm but wasnā€™t he keeping an absolutely shite Cashel team senior almost single handedly until he moved to Dublin?

He was a very good club hurler but Cashel needed him at both sides of the field. I actually felt he was more effective for them as a centre back. He has being playing there for the last few years for Crokes.

I think he left around 09/10. They didnā€™t get relegated until 2014. I can understand why he went to further his hurling career but I think he should have stayed around. He would have gotten another crack with Tipp. Lads like Conor O Brien, Tom Stapleton and Donagh Maher were all dropped off county panels at that time and got back in by virtue of their club form.

His brother who is also teaching in Dublin continued to travel up and down to play with Cashel for years while he didnā€™t. I donā€™t think he would be too well liked there.

Fair enough, there was also the relegation saga around 2011/12? which ended up with Ballybacon going down where they were lucky to stay up. Interesting to see how they do coming back up

Cashel would have been relegated the year after he left only they objected to Ballybacon over something stupid.

I think theyā€™ll be OK to stay up while Eoghan Connolly is there. Heā€™s a brilliant player.

Theyā€™ve a Bonnar young lad as well thatā€™s fairly good do they? Does Fitzelle still hurl?

Thereā€™s 2 that are decent.

Not really sure on Fitzelle. Heā€™s injured a lot.

Senior B is even enough Iā€™d say. Most teams can probably beat eachother on any given day.

The Meehan family Laochra Gael on TG4 now for any of the Galway posters here.

As far as I know Caltra lost their senior status in Galway recently. Be a big comedown from AI senior club champions.

They have been poor for quite a while now

Once in a generation family carried them and even better beat the gaeltacht in the final. Thought they only had to turn up.

Think they were Intermediate in the late 90ā€™s according to the episode. The Meehans kicked 12 of their 13 points in that All-Ireland final win.

A couple of factors behind the fall. The Meehans had a huge say in the running of the club and obviously made a great job of it but there would be a few people who didnā€™t like it and walked away. And both hurling clubs that they get players from are now senior clubs themselves so thatā€™s where much of the interest is, the 2 Mannions are the local heroes rather than any footballer.
