the mail? enough said…
Well it was reproduced in the Mail, from an internet forum. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be treated as gospel but pretty much all of it sounds believable to me.
Thats a fairly long piece Sledge. Fairly shocking stuff if its all true.
Interesting piece. Thanks for posting it sledge.
Ya, good man sledge. Sad to see this, i think i actually know this guy, or at least i’ve met him if i’m thinking of the right person.
People like Tom Coughlan shouldn’t be left near a club. He’s a scumbag.
And now Cork are letting everyone in for free for their game against Drogheda tomorrow night. It’s like something from a parallel universe, it really is. If the club is on its uppers, why on earth would they toss money away in this manner? I know it’s a Champions League QF night and not a lot of people will want to pay into Cork-Drogheda anyway, but it’s absolutely incredible that they’d just charge nothing on the gate.
Fools. The sentiment is not bad, but they should be letting in clubs of underage teams in or something like that. Whoever fixed it for the same night as the CL is equally foolish here. FAI shooting themselves in the foot.
In fairness, there are games on all over England and Scotland on the same night as the CL quarter finals. Maybe it’s going to deprive individual clubs of some incomce, but I’m not sure it’s that big a deal. The FAI have to schedule midweek league fixtures, and League Cup games also in midweek, so it’s inevitably going to clash with internationals or CL nights now and again.
I don’t buy that at all. You should know your audience and they don’t “have” to play it the same week as big games.
You also should recognise whats more powerful than you, and playing league games during the week at the same time as big CL games is just stupid IMO. Every body you can get into a ground theses days you need.
And I thought Bohs not letting away fans into the Jodi and thus charging them 5 less was stupid (not to mention bringing them across for free when it rains). The people who go on a Champions League night are the type of people who wouldn’t mind paying I would have thought. Also, I’d imagine the idea is to get people in, hope they like what they see and come back. I don’t think Drogheda is the best choice of game for that. They were pretty dirt against Bohs this year anyway and didn’t score in their first four games. Madness!
Hopefully Galway will do something similar!
It is. Actually, it’s not. It’s beyond stupid.

No FAI action over Dundalk’s Palestinian flag

The FAI has confirmed that no action will be taken against Dundalk FC after a Palestinian flag was displayed by the club’s supporters during last weekend’s 3-1 win at Sligo Rovers. A spokesman for the Association told extratime.ie that “no action will be taken against Dundalk, nor was there ever going to be. The issue was never reported to us”.
Dundalk claimed that they were to be reported over the display of the flag. The club said that the FAI had branded the flag as “racist” and last night they challenged the FAI, stating they were treating the matter “very seriously” and “considering making an official complaint”.
Offending banner
“Our fans were very well behaved and did themselves proud [in Sligo],” club secretary Kevin Holland wrote in the Dundalk FC Magazine for the visit of Shamrock Rovers to Oriel Park on Tuesday night. "But during the game the FAI match delegate summoned our Chairman and informed him that he would be reporting Dundalk FC for the display of a racist banner. What was the offending banner? The Dundalk flag that we have seen in Oriel Park for many, many years that features a Palestinian flag. Now, I do not profess to be an expert in these matters - but how can a flag that features an internationally recognised flag be deemed as racist?
Official complaint
“The Palestinian flag is flying outside the United Nations building in New York,” he added. “Also, members of the Gardai were standing in front of the flag during the game and didn’t have any problem with it. This accusation may be ridiculous but I am treating it very seriously. The Board of Dundalk will be considering making an official complaint against the FAI over this incident. Darren Mansaram was the victim of racist abuse against Drogheda and there was also some racist abuse chanted his way by Sligo fans near where I was sitting in Sligo. To equate a flag to these incidents is disgusting and downright offensive.”

Thats just farcical, what a bunch of fucking muppets they are, jesus.
Do Dundalk have any links with Palestine or anything? Saw the flag before and wondered what the story was. Don’t see how it could be racist.
Kenny’s cracking up, he’s cracking up, he’s cracking up
Kenny’s cracking up
Derry City boss Stephen Kenny has told setanta.com that the long distances his team have to travel are draining.
The Candystripes sit on top of the Premier Division table after six games played in the new season, but their success comes at a cost.
Kenny believes the travelling that his team have to endure for each away fixture takes a lot out of his players and it gives other sides a slight advantage over them.
There isn’t much that can be done to address these concerns as every team plays the same number of home & away games and it is just unfortunate that their are not many teams situated close to Derry.
“My players have to go through a lot more than players on other teams due to the distances they have to travel throughout a season,” Kenny admitted to setanta.com.
"We have to leave early, sometimes stay overnight, and often travel back on the night of a game, which means the players don’t arrive back in Derry until crazy hours.
"When we are playing against Cork City, for example, it is a massive journey for us. That has to take it out of the players and give the other team a slight edge over us.
“But that is the way it is. We have to put up with it and carry on. It makes our job a bit tougher, but we have a good group of players here and they have the right attitude.”

Did it ever cross his mind that going to Derry can be draining for Cork, Waterford etc etc. Join the Irish League if its too much of a problem.
Stupid thing to bring up and sounds like he’s mamking his excuses before the fact.
From foot.ie - Cork City likely to fold
Cork City likely to fold.
It’ll spread here eventually.
Tom Coughlan is through with the club after the Galway game.
400k tax bill.
FORAS have called an EGM for next week, but the problem is even if staff all agreed to terminate contracts there’s no way the fans could foot a tax bill that size.
Club looks like folding. Will not be allowed into examinership again: straight to receivership (with zilch assets) and liquidation.
Bohemian FC 3 - St Patrick’s Athletic 0

Bohemians steamrolled over St Patrick’s Athletic in a terrific Dublin derby encounter at Dalymount Park.
The Inchicore side started well but soon fell apart and played the last half hour with ten men after Dave Partridge was sent off. Glen Crowe opened the scoring with his first of the season on 48 minutes. Graham Carey, who had a superb game, doubled the lead on 70 minutes before Jason Byrne shot home the third on 77.The victory sees the Gypsies go top of the League of Ireland Premier Division as they made the most of Derry City’s surprise loss to Sligo Rovers.
Before kick-off, St Pat’s substitute Glen Fitzpatrick became unwell in the warm up and received treatment from club doctor Matt Corcoran and medical staff on the pitch. He was replaced on the bench by John Lester. With the game underway, there was end-to-end action in the opening minutes with Ryan Guy and Damian Lynch both going close for Pat’s earlier on, while Brian Shelley flung a great ball into the Pat’s box on 11 minutes but Enda Stephens did well to intercept and get the ball safely to Gary Rogers in goal.
Bohs’ goalkeeper Brian Murphy then made two fine saves, first from a Mark Quigley shot on 16 and a curling Alan Cawley free-kick a minute later.Carey was looking good for Bohs on the right wing and got a shot in on 21 minutes but rifled wide under press from Stephens while Crowe shot over seconds later. Paul Keegan struck a ferocious free kick for Bohs on 25, but Rogers read the danger and made the save. On 36, Jason Gavin blocked an Owen Heary shot after the Bohs captain had connected with Rogers’ clearance from a corner.
The home side dominated for the rest of the half and began the second in a similar vein. They took the lead on 48 minutes when Crowe connected with Cronin’s ball from the right and glanced a header past Rogers from close range. It should have been two on 58 but Byrne flicked the ball the wrong side of the post having met Joseph Ndo’s through ball from the right. It got worse for Pat’s on the hour when Partridge was red-carded after an off-the-ball incident.
Boss Jeff Kenna responded by firstly bringing Jamie Harris on for Andy Haran on 62, who was swiftly followed by Stuart Byrne, who replaced Steven Maher. It was all in vain though as Carey topped a terrific personal performance with a tremendous low drive past Rogers before Cronin set up Byrne for the third with a fine turn and shot.Darragh Ryan could have had a consolation for the visitors as the clock hit 90 minutes but put his shot went over the top.
Bohemians: B Murphy, Heary, Rossiter (Powell 53), Cronin, McGuinness, Shelley, Carey (A Murphy 82), Ndo, Crowe (Brennan 76), J Byrne, Keegan.
St Patrick’s Athletic: Rogers, Gavin, Maher (S Byrne 64), Lynch, Stephens, Ryan, Partridge, Cawley, Quigley, Haran (Harris 62), Guy.
Referee: D McKeon.
