Leaving Cert Results

The legendary German work ethic left the lads down there.

The German school just needs to calm down.

We are all Franz here.

Herr Herr.

I’ve had dealings with the Deutsche schule before. They can go and Scheiße

What exactly happened here?

The German school would usually get a raft of H1s so the teachers marked them accordingly this year?

But someone in Department of Education (without having regard for the school specialising in German) felt you can’t have most of the class getting the highest mark and graded a load of them down to H2?

Is that essentially it?

Essentially.

Let’s see what they did for Gaelscoileanna.

From what I can tell, everyone is marked to a curve. The marks were to be adjusted down based on historic school scores to minimise grade inflation. They did this in the UK and it
was an absolute shit show with accusations of elitism etc. Better schools got better scores as normal but the lefties felt this was elitism, (I mean it is, but it’s not the results fault).
So Paddy rather ingeniously copied them but let out the historic school scores part. So it’s brought back to an overall curve but with a big chunk of grade inflation to keep everyone happy.
The problem with this seems to be people in grind schools etc who would normally be way above the curve are getting punished.

The people who buy a leaving cert are being punished.

Absolutely correct. The algorithm was altered for political reasons. That clearly changes it from an algorithm designed to best reflect the result a student would likely have achieved had they sat the actual exam.

Unless there’s some sort of “we can do whatever we want to do even if its complete makey-uppy bollox” law they can hide behind they’ll end up with a rake of legal cases for this that they will struggle to defend.

Mere leaving cert results can be overcome . Not playing an all Kildare schools cup final can not be overcome .

Any update on this ??

Can’t those two Krauts sit an exam next November?

School profile was excluded after the fact.

Nine.

Sure - but if it impacts upon their college course of choice its effectively setting them back a year.

If they thought it was important at the start to ensure as “accurate” a result as possible (and any rudimentary understanding of statistics would suggest that is) then why did it suddenly become not important?

It’s as you say it was politically expedient to do so. I can’t afford to send my kids to a private school but I don’t begrudge someone who does. Mick is so happy with Fionn and Saoirse’s H2 in history and English he will ignore the blatant Black guarding going on here.

That reaction of the general populace in effectively ignoring a bribe that benefits them is embedded in our culture

I’ll Mick you , you geebag.

It is but equally private schools have been subsidised for years by taxpayers whose kids don’t attend so a poke in the eye for them won’t worry most people.

The German school is harder to justify unless kids in all Irish schools were equally marked down in Irish.

Judicial reviews will be flooding in next week.

I think the whole thing could provide Paul Howard with a fair bit of material .

Parents who send their kids to private schools are subsidising the public system by choosing not to take places they are entitled to in public schools.
