Carlow picked up one draw in Leinster against Kilkenny and lost all their other matches by an average of 12 points.
Tipperary picked up one draw in Munster against Waterford and lost all their other matches by an average of 12 points.
Thatās the 3rd time out of 5 that Tipperary have had a winless Munster round robin campaign. The tournament organisers really need to have a look at this ring fencing of Tipperary against relegation.
Of course he can. It was never a red bar a 5ft tall carkie IC ref with a height chip on wan shoulder, a cark chip on the other, and a referee chip on his little pot belly.
I havenāt seen the match at all yet. Planning on watching the highlights back tonight but how big a factor was the red card? Would Dublin have won anyway if it was 15 v 15? Carlow basically relegated off the back of James Owens decision to send off Chris Nolan in first-half stoppage time too apparently.
I know its a done thing to castigate Owens these days, but I can only imagine that wasnt his call. If he had seen it at the time, heād have given the red there and then. It had to be a call by another official as the red was shown prior to the second half starting. It was a harmless one, he put the leg out and pushed him to trip him up, certainly not a red card offence that you need to wait the 15mins break to send him off then.
I canāt believe lads are going with the narrative of Kilkenny are only limping along and vulnerable, they are doing the same thing for the last 3 years they will beat Dublin comfortably in the final and if Limerick manage to win Munster id expect a third AI final pairing in a row between them.
Kilkenny are going for 5 Leinsters in a row but Wexford should have beaten them in each of their last 8 championship meetings (4 Wexford wins, 1 draw, 3 Kilkenny wins*). Kilkenny are absolutely useless.
*1 act of God/technology, 2 acts of refereeing incompetence.
In 2022, they mightnt have got much credit for it but they were very good against Clare in the Semi Final and won the Leinster Final well. They did as well as they could in the final too.
Last year they poxed the Leinster Final and were handed the game by Clare who played a sweeper in the first half and conceded a horrendous goal after they had wrestled back control. They then bombed out spectacularly in the second half of the Final.
They havenāt really shown any signs of improvement so far this year. They are Kilkenny though and thatās worth a few points but as @Bandage and i have been saying for a good while, they are no good.
A strange situation. In football if a team won 5 provincial championships in succession then weād start to hear murmurs about a monopoly and how unfair it is. Kilkenny are on the cusp of 5 in a row and itās probably the most competitive Leinster has been this century. Itās galling because weāve been on a par with them throughout that period.
Instead of an eminently winnable big dance in Croker for the Bob Oā Keefe Cup we now have a banana skin (Laois/Offaly) and most likely Clare to reach the same semi-final stage. It would be great in some respects to finally lock horns with this vintage Limerick side. Weāve had their number fairly regularly in winter hurling (2017 and 2022) so theyāll probably try to avoid us again by winning Munster.
