Leinster Hurling Championship 2025

The best example i seen of this farcical situation is last year every Offaly game in the Joe Mcdonagh was on Clubber, this year none of their games are televised or streamed due to the broadcasting agreement.

Local press round up:

Liam Ryan could have played last week from the start or the bench but Keith Rossiter didn’t feel the need to use him & is confident he can contribute this weekend if needed after another week’s training. Shane Reck should also be fit enough to join the match-day squad. Rossiter doesn’t intend to appeal Jack O’Connor’s red card & Jack Redmond tweaked his ankle immediately after coming on last weekend & they’re still waiting to see how that settles down.

Ergo, Wexford seem to have sufficient defensive cover when you consider the two returning players mentioned above with Simon Donohoe, who’s been playing in midfield, able to slot back too. Donohoe will make his 100th Wexford appearance on Saturday btw.

But the options upfront are much lighter given O’Connor’s suspension, Conor McDonald’s continuing absence & Redmond’s knock. I think you have to factor the venue/surface into account too & Parnell Park lends itself to tight & physical exchanges. It won’t be the match for tippy tappy stuff & there won’t be space to play lots of low balls in front of small & nimble attackers. So I reckon Wexford will need some physicality & aerial ability to complement Chin. Otherwise we’ll surely be overly reliant on him to win primary possession.

You’d expect Rory O’Connor, Cathal Dunbar, Kevin Foley & Cian Byrne to retain their places upfront & none of them are the tallest (granted Foley’s catch & pirouette for the second goal last weekend was brilliant) so it’ll be interesting to see how Wexford approach it. The other attackers on the bench last week weren’t the biggest either - Seamus Casey, Corey Byrne Dunbar, Simon Roche, Mikie Dwyer, Tucker Kinsella. If Redmond isn’t fit then I wonder would Kinsella be most likely next up given the specific challenge here…unless there’s a slight rejig & they start Liam Ryan or Shane Reck in defence to release Richie Lawlor or Charlie McGuckin to the half forward line. I’d prefer not to move either of those out of wing back though.

For the hurlers? He had a couple of seasons with the footballers too before switching at the end of the 2016 season. In truth he’s a better footballer than he is hurler.

Yep, for the hurlers.

Dublin 17/10 to beat Wexford. That seems way overpriced?

The obvious choice is to throw Liam Ryan in full forward to wreak havoc

Wexford have beaten Dublin once in the hurling championship since 2008.

To be fair most of those have been draws.

A bear on the square in the mould of Stephen Banville in that 2008 victory against Dublin.

Dublin are a division 2 team who are workmanlike. They were lucky to beat Offaly who despite their progress are still some way off it.
Wexford competed well in latter rds of league in division 1 and took care of business with 14 men the last day. Chin and O’Connor are asgood as whats out there inmy view. Dublin look overpriced but I’d still expect Wexford to win by 3 or 4 points.

People laughed when I claimed Joe Canning at centre back for Galway would be a gamechanger. Limerick and Clare won All Irelands with converted forwards at the focal point of defence subsequently. We need a big physical forward who is exceptional under the high ball. Jippo can be a modern day Eamonn Cleary!

I never did bro.

Ken McGrath should have won one too

Wexford were coasting last year v Dublin only to concede 2 late goals. The year before Donal Burke bet Wexford on hos own after Wexford shot 1 x million wides. Danny Sutcliffe and Donal Burke look like they qre out Sunday too. It will still be a tight game but i would have Wexford as favourites

Our boys need to stop this shite of going down alleys they can’t get out of. One man heading into 2 or 3 players close to the sideline and handpassing the ball away out of pressure. Must surely happened about three or four times on Saturday.

Loss of Burke and sutcliffe could swing it for wexford. No doubht it’ll be a 2 or 3 points game at best.

If Dublin don’t beat Wexford, Wexford usually beat Wexford. Their record against Dublin is awful. No reason why it will chenge this weekend.

Conor McDonald’s recovery from injury seems to be going well anyway.
