Fuck that. Would you support a Tipp Limerick combination team

You have to do something. Croke Park
have no interest in developing hurling.
I feel for offaly, Laois, Carlow, Antrim, West Meath.
Great hurling people in those counties.

Kevin Martin seemed fairly accepting of it in a radio interview earlier. Hard for them playing 4 weeks in a succession but perhaps the two hidings in the last 2 weeks hasn’t done the argument that they’re deserving of a place in the round robin any favours.

We blackguarded Cheddar and Critchley though. The Jerws had nothing on us.

Fuck that. Carlow will never amount to a whole lot with just 6 hurling clubs (7 if Carlow Town could sort their shit out) but we make do with what we have and soldier on. Offaly for all the moaning about their playing base would still have twice the pick of Carlow. Carlow and Westmeath have been routinely beating Offaly at underage levels for a decade or so now.

There looked to be a fair few Galwegians at Wexford park?
When did they start travelling to games?

He’s a solid manager. County board are a bit of a shambles but there’s nobody knocking down the door to take over.
Offaly has a relatively tiny true hurling population in Birr and nearby towns. They overachieved massively in 80s and 90s and it can be argued they are reverting to their level against teams like Westmeath and Antrim with similar hurling populations.

Yes. They effectively had two great generations of players back to back. It took them over 90 years to win their first Leinster Championship in 1980 and that group of players kept them at the top table for all of the 80’s and into the early 90’s. The team of the 90’s was built around their only 3 All Ireland minor winning teams of 1986, 87 & 89.

When they started winning.

Carvery lunches during the day, training late in the evening. More food before bed. Terrible lifestyles etc.

Didn’t the great Jerry Kiernan, a few years ago, declare that GAA players were not nearly as fit as they were made out to be.

They’re not elite athletes. Hurling is only a hobby. Lot of these lads have 9 to 5 jobs.

They aren’t elite athletes . They are amateur sportsmen who give a lot of time to their hobby .
