Fergal Glancy gone for the year according to the Observer.
Thats a pity he done well for us last year
@Massey will be disgusted
Leitrim forward Emlyn Mulligan says there was no chance that he would use his year away from the game to transfer to a different county this year.
Mulligan (27) spent the summer playing Gaelic football with Donegal Boston as part of the year he took away from the inter-county scene, but is back in harness with Shane Wardâs squad since his return three weeksâ ago.
Mulligan, who was born in Donegal and has played his club football with Dublin side St Brigidâs in recent years, was rumoured to be joining both counties on his return, but he says there was no chance of him linking up with either Rory Gallagherâs or Jim Gavinâs sides.
âNo, there was nothing like that at all,â said Mulligan. "I played with Donegal Boston over in America and youâll always have rumours and speculation, but that was never going to happen anyway.
"Last year I was probably a bit browned off with the whole thing, but time is a very good healer and hopefully the year has given me a new lease of life. The thoughts of running a round the field in the wet of December isnât great after ten months of sun, but Iâm looking forward to getting back into it now.
âI thought Iâd have missed it all year, but I really didnât. I got up to listen to the Galway game on the radio, but other than that I didnât miss the game at all.â
The return of their former captain to the squad is a huge boost for Leitrimâs hopes of exiting Division 4. Last season they came as close as ever to gaining promotion, but draws earned against Offaly and Longford - who were both promoted - cost them dearly.
At last having a permanent training base in Annaduff, which will be opened on January 1, is another lift for the Leitrim squad and the former Melvin Gaels attacker says there is a great buzz around the camp already.
"After a few nights in the gym, we are back on the pitch for the first time this week and our first game is four weeks away. From now on you donât be long getting back into it with 12 games in the next three months.
"The first night I went up to the gym it nearly felt like I was joining a new team altogether. I hadnât played under Shane Ward before, there are loads of new players and back room staff. Maybe it was the change I needed.
âThe centre of excellence is brilliant. Itâs been a long time coming, but itâll be a huge asset for us. At least players know where they will be based every night rather than waiting for the text to find out.â
It remains to be seen if Mulligan is in a position to rejoin St Brigidâs in Dublin as he and his girlfriend are both in the process of trying to sort out the respective careers. The garda says he hopes to live in a commutable distance from Dublin and Leitrim, but itâs a waiting game for now.
"My girlfriend works in marketing and she left her job to go travelling for the year. So it really depends where she can get work and where we both can settle down.
"Iâve been in touch with St Brigidâs already, but I really have to wait and see how things work out. But Iâd love to stay playing up there if at all possible.
âFor now weâll just have to see what happens,â he added.
Dublin wouldnât have him.
Dublin have history of taking Leitrimâs better players
Dublin havenât taken a blow in since some blondie ex pat they sent out there decided to come back.
He doesnât come across like the prima donna he was painted as there at all
It was called off Massey
Annaduff is spread over a huge area, 43 acres to be precise, and the huge pillars at the entrance are like driving into a top hotel complex. It consists of:
Outside
- 5 full-sized, perfectly level, sandbased grass pitches (all floodlit);
- 1 full-sized 3G pitch and a half-size 3G training area (both floodlit);
- Adventure playground area for children;
- Outdoor amphitheatre consisting of 3 levels.
Inside
- 30,000 sq ft building in shape of a Celtic T - fitted out with curved glass facade, chrome & marble;
- 3 fitness suites, the highlight being the ÂŁ40k anti-gravity running machine in one of them;
- A 200 seater lecture theatre for committee meetings or team tactical sessions;
- Numerous offices and boardrooms with flatscreen tvs and plush leather seats for meetings/county coaches/officials;
- 10 changing rooms, ranging in size from large to huge, plus an additional one for referees;
- Hot and cold jacuzzis for rehab after every training session and, luckily for Leitrim, a large medical treatment room;
- Canteen area where every side will receive a hot meal after training;
- Irish language corner;
- History area, looking at history of Leitrim (not just football);
- Large glass octagon with names of 292 Leitrim fans who donated ÂŁ5k each.
Power
- Wind turbine being built to provide electricity for complex;
- Solar panels;
- Sensor lights throughout the building.
I was massively impressed - more than I expected to be. By way of comparison, my friend who came with me said it was superior to what he saw at Manchester Utdâs Carrington facility. To have something like this built by and for Leitrim GAA is a great achievement, and will hopefully help Leitrim rise to being one of the top football sides in the country for a long time to come.
We can rent it out from the middle of June onwards every year and make a tidy sum
I was in conversation with Keith Beirne over the weekend and he tells me itâs a great set up but the northern clubs have been dead set against its location from Day 1.
I asked would he be playing U21 next year but he wasnât sure as heâs playing soccer with Longford Town now and while he would like to play both codes, LTFC are putting pressure on him to pack in the GAA. Cunts.
Well it is a right trek from kinlough /manor to Annaduff but itâs done now I hope we get some use out of it
Itâs badly sited in all fairness. Somewhere around Drumshanbo/Kiltubrid would have made more sense geographically but they couldnât find a dry field in the parish of Kiltubrid in the month of May when this experiment was first mooted.
PĂĄirc an EilefĂĄnt BĂĄn is to be the title I gather.
Delegates at this yearâs Leitrim GAA convention were informed that the county board had written off over âŹ9,000 for unpaid All-Ireland tickets over the last four years.
All-Ireland final tickets are a scarce commodity and clubs usually turn to their county board for assistance.
However, in Leitrimâs case the tickets are not being paid for and the Leitrim Observer reports that county board treasurer Brian Gordon as stating that they had no option but to write the debt of âŹ9,598 off.
âThat is for money owed for tickets from the county board over the last four years,â said Gordon.
âUnfortunately our records were not sufficient to pursue them any further or carry the debt forward. There was no point in carrying the debt forward.â
Ah here. Those tickets should be providing much needed revenue not running up debt.
Is this Gordon chap slow? Someone has to be accountable for that fuck up?
i hear $8500 of that debt is boxtys,notice all the hurling tickets were paid for
I was always thought that if you have nothing good to say about someone, donât say anything at all.
