Leitrim Football 2018

Yerra they’re all mostly young lads, 18/22 year old with their lives before them. It’s the back end of the year with Christmas looming and the ideal time to kick back, have a scatter of blow-outs, ride a rake of needy snowflakey types, ate all you want and look everyone in the eye.

The nutritionist, dietitian, statistician all them bollixes are for late Spring 2’19. Pedal down hard.

Ah well not the one we wanted but it’ll do I suppose

Better than a jab in the eye from a cocktail stick all right. Manor’s veterans on the score sheet again I see. I always liked Croal though. It’ll have to last ye’ till 2025 as well be taking over. :pint:

Croal was never the same after his assault against Clare in the league in Carrick

True that but for a few years there he was top notch. Our lack of decent support forwards always seemed to tell against him somehow - he was instantly the fall guy for the mouthpieces…

Up there with Barry Prior for the ending of the phrase " that useless cunt"…

The Prophet is thus called for his dialect - It’ll rain/snow…his comments are always futuristic…

I was coming out of Mass tonight when I met our local cleric - a parishioner who’s covering the lack of an appointed priest. He’s returned after 50 years in Nigeria and would be in his high 70’s. A terrific footballer back in the day and a great clubman.
He’d be there or thereabouts the same vintage as The Prophet.
The Prophet has been a player, groundsman, committee man (no responsibility) for 50 years but if you want gates opened/closed, lines marked, lines sold, well the Prophet was always on standby.

There appears to have been an arrangement between the Church and the Prophet in that neither visited each others house going back my lifetime. Prophet attended funerals, christenings and weddings, dug graves and all ancillary duties without entering the Church. A biteen touched but a great skin.

On the night of the County Final Majella in the local fired a bottle of Jemmy into the cup and planked it on the counter. In the absence of the Chairwoman (Yes Marie McGovern) the attendant cleric was asked for a toast.

A wonderful summation of the year followed by the call " The most committed and deserving clubman - Prophet McGovern should be the first to drink from this hard won cup". Up staggers the Prophet, grabs the cup and sets to it.

I’d had a few the same day with Prophet and knew he was lightly but he boned the cup and set fair…
No one minded for about a minute until his adams apple began to bob visciously……

The Prophet banged the cup on the counter with the words:

Fuck it ta’ hell Father I can’t finish it…

Fr.Tommy beautifully draped his arm around him and said "You’ve jumped from being a legend to being immortal"

Well that didn’t go so well by all accounts. Right in the match at the break a series of cock-ups got thoroughly punished. Hopefully nobody had an accumulator hinging on it.

I’m sure they wouldn’t have fancied facing Corrofin in the final.

Back to Mohill?
