Bring back the Tommy Murphy cup
Thanks pal. When you’re involved at under-age you’re seeing these lads from U-14 up, you know their favourite foot and their strong points and their inherent love of the game. Somewhere between Minor and Senior the emphasis changes, the demands get greater ( coinciding with College stuff and riding all round you) and your focus wanders but in my mind their loyalty to the club endures. Management of a county team is a difficult task, managing egos against abilities (Hi Emlyn you prick) and tough calls need to be made. In this context I’m awarding the incumbent a scratchy 6/10 mainly because of poor selectoral decisions in the past (Hi Emlyn again)……
Realistically I’m slightly seething that a great bunch of lads have been left behind by …Circumstance, Management and S&C failures.
I was there the day they won the connacht minor league,it was the same day we got well bate by Roscommon in the U21 final.A lot of them have progressed to senior but when you compare them to the mayo team they were still like boys. Why are they not progressing like other county players?
That’s a pity. The incumbent didn’t look too bothered on the line today. Hard to know what the answer is.
Hammerings like today, getting patronised by Marty Morrisey and compared to an u16 team by Pat Spillane is no good for anyone.
I remember many days following Galway being glad to scrape out of Carrick by a couple of points.
I get the feeling Terry isn’t the managerial mastermind we were led to believe
I’ll have a review of it tomorrow but at 1st sighting we were divisions apart.
I’d have great, nay, terrific time for the started 15, every one of them the best selected in their respective jersey.
Then he goes with Donal at m/f causing a full re-jig that the lads didn’t grasp quickly enough, same as 2 years ago with shitehawkery perprated on Fergal McTague….Terry came with a defensive tag attached to be greeted with a squad of forwards, today Terry’s tackling stats are with @blackjack tackling snack-boxes…
@farmerinthecity …tell Terry we’ll accept his resignation…
You can, naturally, use your County Councillor/ County Board Chairman log-in…
Some very interesting points in this regarding underage amalgamations in the county in that the country clubs should be amalgamating rather than the town teams taking in the country lads and the setting up of a secondary schools “A” team to play in the connacht colleges.Which makes a lot of sense tbf.
I’d forgotten about the senior team expansion back in the 00’s
We should fly junior but recent league matches haven’t been great.
Hyland gone. The inevitable raft of suitable candidates will be trotted out starting with Jim Gavin, McGuinness etc….It’s Big Sam come home time for us really.
I still think we have a nice bunch of footballers.
How can a county as small as Leitrim ever expect to compete at any level in football or hurling?
I agree with that but we’re a D4 team currently. We’re low on confidence, behind and badly behind in fitness and conditioning and permanently prone to taking possession into contact where we get turned over.
It’ll take a while to regroup and we may forget this endless shite of thinking we can mix it with the big guns. The B All-Ireland was a springboard to progress 30 years ago so me must embrace rather than reject tiered competitions.
Thanks for everything Terry. One thing about you was you were forthright with your opinions even if your demeanour was occasionally abrupt. The best of luck with your future endeavours, maybe avoid a political career.
Tell that to Monaghan or Fermanagh or even those cunts in Roscommon. Similar size population but punching way above their weight.
This is one of my pet hates,Shane Moran was a devil for it,he wasn’t the only one but it was infuriating.
