Beginning to look difficult for Gortletteragh already and they only up. SoH beat the Willies and Leitrim Gaels beat Kinlough.
Kinlough were poor last week, they have Darragh Rooney and that’s about it.
I see where Paidi O’Sé’s brother Tomás has died below in Ventry. What many of you may not know is that he was an integral cog in the revival of the Willies fortunes and was on their Senior winning teams of 1976 and 1978 to the best of my knowledge.
He was an agricultural advisor or worked in an Fóras Taluntais in the town and was unimpressed with their football styles. The more agricultural ethos of the Willies saw him throw his lot in with them as robustness and manly thumps were their trademarks. He was a typical 70’s style O’Sé, may God be good to him.
True unfortunately - and most houses still with the flags and bunting up from the Inter final.
They have 5 or 6 decent lads tbf but they looked very limited Saturday. Should have had at least 2 or 3 more goals,McCrann missed a penalty and had one cleared off the line.
You’d have to fancy them all the same if it came down to Drumshanbo or themselves.
Another year in senior would stand to them, meanwhile in Drumreilly lads are belying their years…
Drumshanbo look to be very poor
Never knew that Paidi O’Se’s brother and played for Aughawillan!
You do now, a hardy nut so he slotted in seamlessly…
The Willie’s forwards will need more accuracy than is being shown by the above post referencing their title victory of 1974…
The 1974 final was won by Sheemore Gaels, an amalgamation of Carrick and Fenagh.
Fenagh 0-13
Willies 1-10
We squandered a 4 point interval lead and in truth were lucky to get the draw. We needlessly conceded a penalty midway through the second half (Sean Flanagan) which pulled them level and we just couldn’t pull away. That said, as ever, they battled and worked like dogs for each other. Our big guns failed to get into it after the break and we made an absolute raft of basic handling errors.
3 points from 3 with Drumshanbo to come should be enough for a q/f spot but we’re only chugging along. Mohill’s to lose.
These group games are only a cod,we have 8 senior teams and that’s it.Two groups of 4 is plenty. It would liven up the intermediate teams as well.Mohills to lose as you say cc @thedancingbaby
Bit of a shock here
They need to beat Carrick to make the quarters - a big ask. They’re likely to face Drumshanbo in the relegation final which they’re eminently capable of winning, they’d be roaring favourites actually.
A peek at the tables indicates that we could finish 2nd in the group to Mohill (predicted on beating Drumshanbo) but based on yesterday evenings performance we’re well behind the big 3 of Mohill, Manor and Carrick. We’ll plough on nonetheless.
Delighted to see Gortletteragh get the draw that not only staves off a relegation playoff but ensures a q/f slot. They’re gathering momentum. A bonus to see those Kinlough fuckers in a relegation final but surely to Christ they’ll get over Drumshanbo. We’re in Shane McGettigan park tomorrow evening to put another nail in their coffin. A win for us would see us paired with Leitrim Gaels in the q/f - a repeat of last year.
Fenagh 3-17 Drumshanbo 1-09. The townies were an abject rabble, no cohesion, spirit or even defiance shown by them. They’re headed for the drop unless Kinlough totally collapse.
Mohill totted up 26 points to the Willies 1-13. Mohill’s to lose (unlikely).
Sad news for Gortletteragh supporters, Jack Colreavy, a stalwart clubman from the 70’s has passed away about 6 months after his brother Hugh. They were, along with their brothers Mickey and Seamus hardy nuts.
As bad as Kinlough are I can’t see Drumshanbo bating them.Anyway as you say it’s Mohill’s to lose.
