The hurlers have mugged off Longford.

Mugged them off good and proper

A bit late with this. I assume everyone knows at this stage. Beirne will miss the London match.

In my humble opinion the much maligned County Board were too slow out of the blocks with the appeal.
There was scant (if any) film or video evidence and the entire issue was the linesman’s call.
We should have come out with whatever we’d got - grovelling - stretching to engaging Joe Brolly but as ever, we lay down and took the medicine. Divla’ matter, this could prove a blessing. Stick Mark Plunkett on the 40, fork it in early and often at the inside men and the whole thing will be forgotten about. It’ll leave Keith fine and fit to tear Lee Keegan or that carroty headed Galway lad a new hole in the semi.

The way he played against Sligo I’d leave Plunkett on the bench but he’s too good a player.I agree with you the 40 is the place for him.One major problem next week is going to be free taking. We can’t start Mulligan as he’ll be gassed after 15 minutes so we have no free taker.I assume Darragh Rooney or ROR will take responsibility. In saying that we should still have enough to beat them, they were poxed in the league game in Bekan

I’d imagine Domhnall Flynn will be selected with a view to frees from the left side. RoR will manage the rest of them. Beirne is a big loss no doubt but we should have enough. The back 6 remains problematic.

Might he stick Plunkett at 6?It’s been a problem all year

Ah he’s been terrific there before and I see where you’re coming from but you’re losing his ball-winning ability and his eye for an early ball. As you said his form has dipped a bit but he’s more valuable at 8,9 or 11. I’d be for siting Paddy at 6 in a defensive role and building around him. Shane Quinn comes into the frame here as he’s a dinger to tidy up ball but needs to moderate his exuberance ( cut out the clothes-line tackles).

London surely favs

I’d say Paddy will start at 3 I think.I don’t think the Diffley experiment has worked.Hes a lovely footballer but he’s not a full back.Id love to see an attacking half back line of Maguire Heslin and Casey against London but the full back line would be to exposed unless we play Shane Quinn as a sweeper.Coach Moran went for the early KO against London in Bekan and it would have worked wonderfully only for wide after terrible wide.

Did he not play all his underage football in the forwards?

Emlyn the Centurion. This will drive a few lads here demented

Absolutely. We’re without Beirne (2-44 NFL) a raggletaggle at the back (see proposed measures above) low on confidence and fitness and facing these warriors (pop. 12m V 30k) in their home ground.
I’d have the exiles favs at about 1/2, 4/9 territory. I’ll probably have a nibble at ourselves +10 or +12.
Grim times, the Tailteann Cup won’t be filled with joy either.

Small panels are a fierce drawback.

I suppose the appropriate answer is ā€œAarragh shur’ lookā€ and follow up with a heavy sigh! Yerra!

I was there that day and have the programme. I always hated the way ÚachterÔin CLG the late Alf Murray of Armagh referred to it as SeÔn McDermott Park. A super Galway team that went on to do the 3 in a row.

Sorry for delay, you’re right. Top class half-forward or occasional stints at midfield.
Hard to see the desire to fit him into the full back line but he could be an option at wing-back.
We could well do with a John Mac in the 3 shirt but that ship has sailed. He was a diamond.

A class footballer but prone to the odd howler.
