Rooney was very bad.I couldn’t believe he was back out for the 2nd half.Ryan was bating them on his own.Beirne had one outrageous sideline in the 2nd half.I heard a SOH man saying Dean has broke a finger/fingers in training.I see Shane Moran on the bench at 26.We looked great at times and woeful at other times. The Carlow long direct ball into our back line caused all sorts of problems in the first half but we had no one sweeping, suicidal stuff not having any cover back.
Rooney paid the price for last Sunday by being “rested”. Shane Moran a welcome return at midfield, he had a quiet day being eclipsed by a mighty showing from Pearce Dolan. Beirne had a quieter scoring day, 5 points or that, O’Rourke his dancing best, Wrynn not a half-forward no more than Plunkett a 14 etc etc.
Backs are a mystery, Cullen starting at wing back from the Neddies is odd, his brother got game time as well (goal) but whatever plan Moran has it will need Paddy Maguire to marshall the back six.
We’ve won, what more can we do. Scalder ruminates that another year is needed in D4, finish strong, have a rattle at the Tailtean Cup and D4 next year will include LD and WW and we’ve a fighting chance.
There was a mighty session in Kesh in the aftermath of a wedding - ceól agus ól, go léir at meisce.
Foley was in his element.
Edit: Wexford have a few treacherous hoors….
Haven’t been here in few weeks so sorry for dragging up old posts. Beirne did train with Roscommon and tried transfer but because he needed to play club championship before he could be eligible for county and with that not starting until the August he would have missed a years ball and opted against the move.
Mind you with form hes been in this year i would take him all day.
Anyway ye are going well lads keep if up
We kicked a sight of bad wides today,at least 6 or 7.We’re creating lots of goal chances.ROR needs new tyres every time he went to run he dug up the pitch.Young Cullen (7) had a fine game I thought,Rooney won’t get back in there.Pearsehad a fine game today with some great high catches.Too many of the lads went soloing into the FF line leading to getting bottled up,when we kicked it in early we looked dangerous.Darragh Rooney had a fine first half tbf to him.Diffley is a way to slack for full back,he gives his man too much space. All we can do is try and beat Sligo and hope them Tipp cunts slip up.It will be some kick in the balls to see them go up after the hammering we have them in Thurles
RoR has been the same since he was an U-12. He tends to drive the boot into the ground for lift-off. It’s all the years living in the boggy end of the parish. Carrick is a shit pitch, soft and dead and that’s possibly why Moran left out Tom Prior at the start going with Donal at 12, pushing Plunkett forward thereby accommodating Shane Moran. It’s hard to get a half-firm pitch in Leitrim in the Summer never mind March. We can only see it out now by putting it up to the Magpies on Sunday. Forget the London thing and look ahead at the Tailtean Cup. We won’t be far off the required standard by the time it rolls around.
We’ll bate London and put up a gutsy 20 mins again Mayo but if we get a decent draw in the cup we could do some damage,I’d wouldn’t fear any of the Div 3 teams tbf.
That’s about the height of it. Just enough to lure you back in again.
It’s the hope that kills ye
And so it came to pass……Grrrr…….
Oh well.Nice day for a game, should suit our forwards. Can see us conceding a nice few scores though.
Great day for it, we’ll throw off the shackles and build momentum for a crack at Connacht……
Yeah, fuck it anyway
Keith Beirne sent off on a straight red. Does that suspension take in the London game or carry over to next year’s league does anyone know ??
Sligo a point up at half time.
We never looked like winning today, very poor effort
Surely not?
I was listening to the Waterford Wexford hurling match. A Wexford lad was sent off on two yellows and the commentator noted that if he had got a straight ref he’d miss the first round of the Championship.
Make of that what you will.
Our full back line is terrible,we give up multiple goal chances every week.Teams just waltz straight through us.We played quite well until the sending off and ROR missed a sitter for another goal at the start of the first half after a great run from deep by Paddy Maguire.I don’t know what’s goin on with Plunkett,he’s a pale shadow of the player he once was.He was turned over multiple times by Sligo today.Jack Heslin scored a lovely point in the first half after a great run up the wing. The black card fucked us,young Cullen was just on when he got it.We also picked up a lot of yellow cards today. We have no free taker apart from Beirne by the looks of it,we got back to 2 points midway in the second and missed a few frees that he probably would have landed and would have put a bit of pressure on Sligo but the game just fizzled out really after that.Very poor crowd there as well I thought.Im not too confident now that we’ll bate London without Beirne.
The Beirne card will be overturned on appeal you’d imagine/hope. Failing the appeal we’ll just have to move Mark Plunkett to 11 ( ostensibly his best position) and take it from there.
Neither Diffley nor Heslin are natural defenders and Fergal McTague needs to be drafted in at 3 sharpish.
He’s an old style Willie, big, tough and abrasive - what’s needed at our level, a big fuck off outa here fullback. Shane Quinn must be doing community service on the sideline, abrasive but terrific engine and a great foot-passer……very little if any game time so far.
McGovern Park is where it’s at next. The CCC will meet in the interim. Chairman Stenson has the appeal gone in ( countersigned by every available poor mouth) already. There’s no fear of the Cathaoirleach….
Paddy was playing wing back in the first half and made some super surges up the field causing havoc in the Sligo defense,we looked a lot better when he went to full back after half time.To be fair to jack he scored wan wan in the first half.I agree with McTague and possibly dropping a forward and playing Quinn as a sweeper to shore things up at the back(Flynn is doing this already but I thought he was poor yesterday)
