Leitrim Gaa 2025

Hes a fine footballer if we could get him fit, where did you see this “list” ?

The most important list is the one of those who won’t be available.
Jack Gilheaney, Donal Casey & David Bruen, Pearce Dolan & Mark Plunkett, Keith Beirne & Jordan Reynolds are definitely out. There’s 6 or 7 guaranteed starters if fit and committed.

It’s a year when we need to target promotion and go at it all out. We’re not going to trouble anyone in Connacht although on our day we could trouble Sligo and the Tailteann Cup is a waste of time for us.

The opening day of the league and our attitude to it will tell a lot.
Okrim can be a tricky assignment as @myboyblue can attest.

I’m choosing not to comment on Leitrim GAA until you run that charlatan.

It was on the Observer in Mohill notes.

Keith Keegan, the two Harkins and Conor Quinn I think are the four.

I definitely thought Casey and Dolan would be back.Bruen is gone back to Oz isnt he?

He is. Casey is a big loss but we have to look at younger legs. Cap’s young lad has a lot of promise and potential, SOH’s Paul Honeyman and Tom Plunkett (Willies) can have big impacts in the scoring stakes.

We seem to have forwards capable of great things but we’re melojeon at the back. It’ll be an interesting facet of Poacher’s capabilities as a coach to see what strategies he’s able to concoct. Very few jerseys certain between 2-7.

Will the Carrick man start in goals, theyve been bigging him up for years even though hes only a young lad.

Is that young Gaffey?

Presumably a relation of the Mohill Gaffeys?

Yeah

A chronic shortage of goalkeepers in the county. They’re either veterans or young nervy lads and none of them have the standard of kicking that’s required nowadays. 20 years ago we were awash with báideoiri and backs and now we’ve forwards coming out our ears.

I thought Nevin O’Donnell was one of the better keepers we have had since mccrann retired but we know where he went, I see he’s on Bonnars coaching ticket with the other North Leitrim deserters, not a hope should he be approached to come back.
There was a mcpartland lad from Glenfarne in the panel last year but dunno if he was in contention or just there as cover

To be fair to O Donnell he saved 3 penalties agin NY,a pretty decent keeper tbf.McCrann was decent but he cost us that game against Laois in the qualifers in Carrick when we were cruising going into ht and he come tearing out for a high ball he was never going to get and we let in a poxy goal

McCrann was drafted into the team that contested the D4 final V Derry in 2019.
Diarmuid McKiernan of Allen Gaels had stood between the sticks for the entire league campaign only to be usurped by McC for the big day.
On top of your recollection my opinion of him hasn’t improved since. Fair sly of Hyland to pull a stroke like that but he selected Suarez at 11 for the same match to the exclusion of Pearce Dolan :rage:

Anyway after that pile of reminiscing we still haven’t solved the position.

I recall that alright.

Bad form.

I remember that match. They were all over McCrann’s kick outs as well.

McCrann was a good keeper for us overall though I think. Some serious stops in matches,

I suppose he could have told Hyland to leave McKiernan between the sticks but he didn’t. Darren Maxwell had been sub-goalie throughout the league. He was certainly a commanding presence even if he had the odd rush of blood to the head as @Massey recalled.

Tbf Hyland made a balls of the end of that league, we were flying then he started to tinker with them.We had some great wins that year, away to Wicklow and Limerick especially

Rubbish like that is why we didn’t retain keepers.
No 16 is a lonely jersey
