Well done @Chancer. Pity about your bet but you’ll probably take it

Phew! A titanic battle that we just about shaded at the death. It was looking ropey enough midway through the 2nd.half as they starved us of possession for long periods with Swampy 1 (Ryan Jones) showing his experience and craft funnelling the ball around with our lads chasing shadows as we trailed by 6 with about 15 left.

Big Donal grabbed a loose ball and in a twinkling delivered a 60yd raker into Riordan’s paw (10 yds inside his man) and he gobbled up the chance. In an instant the game changed - Oisín McLoughlin snaffled a breaking ball on the halfway line, surged through a few bodies into open space and bore down on a startled Cull in the sticks. As I was expecting him to slip it to the colleague inside he dispatched a daisy-cutter to the corner and we’re all aboard….

Big Donal then venomously drove one over from surely 70yds as we kicked for home tagging on an additional 3. The contest became a little tempestuous with our opponents reluctant to surrender their title without a fight - Swampy 2 (Conall Jones) was red carded, harsh enough I felt, a certain yellow alright but we had them at arms length at that stage.

Riordan O’Rourke was our talisman on the day (1-06 from play) ably assisted by all the McLoughlins, Big Donal and I might mention Gary Butler who was outstandingly solid at full back.

BSOH are of course the warmest of favourites with their big guns coming back to fitness at the right time and a potent attack but we’ll put up the bunting and flags, discuss the possibilities, convince ourselves that we ‘could do it if’, enjoy rakes of pints, go down to the field to look at them training and generally enjoy ourselves. Fuckers you have doubts about going back decades become alright sorts (for the fortnight) and so on we go. It’ll shorten the winter if nothing else…

I might go for a few :pint: :pint: later…

Beating Leitrim Gsels is a massive achievement.

Fear nothing.

It would be remiss of me not to mention how well David Bruen (as mentioned by @Massey) played for them. He kicked 8 points from play and was a continuous thorn as was Stephen Goldrick with 5. But yet again, despite a weekend of good quality football, there’s hardly a back worthy of the name in the county.
To be fair the change to the rules benefit forwards.

Any chance he wont go back to Oz ?

He was super when drifting down the wing into the space when they had the breeze, kicked effortlessly but he’s a wing forward in today’s game.

Yeah he played well,i was watching it at home

Any two pointers in there from Bruen?

4 singles, 2 doubles.

Big Donie got the best 2 pointer of the day, with his left foot.Unreal.Plus his pass into Riordan was sensational.

The big wan

A big occasion for our terribly inexperienced young lads. Ryan and Donal have had big days in the Connacht championship before but this is a different level - bridge a 94 year chasm with a rake of young lads. SOH have been there as winners and losers and have the craft, experience and desire to get it done… We’re well up against it here but we’ll fulfil the fixture. The occasion will stand to us in the years ahead….

I didn’t realise it was that long!

Fé-na abu.

Ye’ll be well able for the townies.Ye were pretty good in the first half of the semi final against the wind, dismal in the 3rd quater but were on fire for th last 15.That wont do against SOH.Need the full 70 mins with everyone playing well.If ye can do that ye have a great chance.

Some seriously impressive predictions going on here.

Annaduff and Dromahair for inter final
Kiltubrid and Aughnasheelin for junior final (that will be a juicy one) though Mary’s reserves have been known to derail strong first teams so don’t go to paddy power yet

Drumkeerin gone from Intermediate to Junior A.

Mohill seconds versus Glenfarne/Kiltyclogher in relegation play off from Junior A.

Sad to see Glenfarne headind down bu unfortunately this looks t be the start of the rural clubs decline.Looks like they may have to amalgamate with Kinlough or Ballinaglera.
