Iām aware of an elderly couple who lived on the Main Street of Balkinamore close to McGirl territory.
They couldnāt speak highly enough of them in terms of being looked after for their every need.

Both had the interests of the town at heart and just got on with it.
McG could freely go to PJ if a matter couldnāt be solved locally and needed DĆ”il intervention - cue back when we were a real country line.

I know that and what happened was unforgivable. That said the people who were holding Tidey were, or should have been aware, that the state forces were closing in and they should have just left Tidey there and disappeared.
For all Conlonās oulā bluster about Bik McFarlane and Belfast heavies it was a clatter of rustics with a few guns that lost their heads and thought it was Vietnam they were inā¦.An avoidable tragedyā¦ā¦
That night we were assembled in the convivial surrounds of the Abbey Bar when Supt.McNally (I think) told the nation through gritted teeth that they had a ring of steel around the town 
. To my left were 2/3 lads smiling to themselves and laughing at him. You could have had your house on it that the muck on their boots wasnāt from our parish.
