Leitrim Matters, the home of sitka spruce

At least it’s not Mary lou, will the festival interfere with SOH winning the championship?

There’s a crumb of comfort in the first part and will you whisht to the second. Stop firing out red herrings, Manor are the favourites for the Fenagh Cup.

SOH and the Willie’s are clear favourites. When are we installing Pearce as leader,I’m sick of her wan.

Ah that’s for them to decide. I’m comfortable with the present leadership.

Is that yourself?

No but the photograph is symptomatic of all that’s going askew within the county.
Trees, fucking trees insidiously creeping up to virtually the back doors of lads houses.

Wait another 20 years until clear felling is in full flow and witness the colossal fuck up this " experiment " has made of the county. Doesn’t bear thinking about.

I quite like trees myself. I always have this recurring dream where I’ve escaped captivity and
I’m running through a forest as dusk sets in. The adrenaline is pumping but I never find a conclusion.

That anecdote is something along the lines of the everyday lifestyle of Boris Johnson. He’s flailing around in the forest as the wolves eyes sparkle from the undergrowth.

Acres being planted with trees to generate an income to send kids to college to get an education and send them even further away from rural life.

Not the case in the main. Mostly smallholdings with nobody interested in attempting to eke out a living on them. The former residences of elderly bachelors have been acquired by various speculators, hedgefunds and official forestry companies.
Your actual farmer with a few children to rear is existing on the miserly income the land yields, augmented by a job if he’s very lucky, herself having a job, the SFP or any social welfare payment he may qualify for.
The rampant forestry is the preserve of faceless nameless investors.

No self respecting farmer would grow trees on his land I’d say. Useless sons abroad in Dublin who ended up with the farm are the main culprits I’d imagine.

Depends on the land.

There was a time Coillte wouldn’t try to buy land if a local farmer was interested in it but them days are gone with the private forestry hovering up land everywhere the cunts.

Just an alert to inform Leitrim folk that ā€œRaised by the villageā€ next Sunday features an unruly teen being transported to Aughawillian for therapy at the hands of Donal Quinn who’s a brother of Jerome, Maeve and Mickey.
Now Aughawillian isn’t a cultural or economic stronghold so I’m keen to see the rehabilitation techniques one of the Quinn’s provide although Coleen is quite civilised I’m led to believe. There’ll be plenty of agri-activities no doubt.

For your diary.
