UL won it another year with Tony Kelly, Jason Forde, John McGrath and a load of them Limerick lads.
UCD had a team around 2013 with Noel McGrath, Cillian Buckley, John Tennyson, Walter Walsh and a few Wexford/Dublin Seniors and they werenât even close to winning it.
Even say 10 years ago you had more of a chance of making it based on raw talent alone. You would be absolutely blown out of it at intercounty these days without a certain level of fitness and strength. Some of that is only going to come with age.
Colleges wise maybe thereâs a Covid element to it as well.
There was a great piece done on Tony Kelly last year saying himself and his friends in Ballyea like Browne/Flanagan/Deasy etc. used spend hours upon hours at the pitch every day pucking and messing around. The âfield crewâ they were known as. There was a tap with water at the field and that kept them going for the day.
Same in KIlmallock sure. The advantage of having the field in the centre of the town. Youâd never see young fellas in there now though. Different times.
