Limerick GAA 2022 - Dual Kings (Part 1)

Brendan Maher something similar. June 2018 and was back at it February 2019.

All depends on the individual hopefully sooner

They have those ops down to a tee now - really clean and precise ā€¦ and most lads are back doing a light bit and strength work within 3-4 months

6 months nowadays. Itā€™s not the same injury it once was. Still a bastard though

Would Limerickā€™s ā€œbenchā€ be considered the strongest out of all teams left?

The better question is, which teams would Limericks bench walk onto.

Take it man by man

For example

Seamus Flanagan:
Tipp - YES
Kilkenny - YES
Clare - YES
Waterford - YES
Galway - NO

And so on

Is that a yes or a no lads?

I Watched both of the last two of our all Ireland semi finals on tv last night and found it hard to believe Dowling only came on after 57 minutes v cork. He came on around 55 minute mark v Kilkenny.

Both games are actually fairly similar in a few ways. Limerick never really got into any consistent rhythm at all early doors. Both cork and Kilkenny team managed to stop limerick implementing their game plans. Cork were probably a bit better at targeting limericks weaknesses but unlike Kilkenny they couldnā€™t get any hold on Gillane.

Dowling played a huge hand in recusing the game v cork in 70 minutes (obviously he was the dominant player in extra time) as did peter Casey. Heā€™d a similar impact v Kilkenny coming up with a magical goal and setting up Reidy for a point. Itā€™s hard to know why he was let take the 65s and long range frees when he came on just like he did v cork the previous year. He landed a monster free v cork in 2018. This one decision was huge.

Thereā€™s been a bit of chat about the clipboard In the media and how good of a reader of a game kinnerk has been due to limericks performances after these mini breaks but Iā€™d say itā€™s early days to be making these assertions for any team or coach. In both semi finals things werenā€™t going limericks way but In 2018 weā€™d Gillane on top with Casey and dowling coming in to rescue things while it must be noted Daniel Kearney going off allowed hannon and the rest of the half back line get on top and eventually our game plan began to work. In 2019 Kilkenny didnā€™t fade, Gillane never really got going in the second half and dowling was coming on without Casey. We barely fell short but it canā€™t be forgotten how dowling pretty much rescued the situation for the management in 2018 and he nearly pulled it off again in 2019.

This year they wonā€™t have him to call on. Hard to know is our 1-15 better without English and mike Casey but we are more experienced which is a help.
We probably know our plan A better and weā€™ve become much better at closing the space between our half back line and full back line too.

If a team can put the blinkers on us again for the third year in a row in a semi final the management ticket will need to have a few different plans to get us over the line Anyway. They canā€™t wait as long either to makes changes because in my opinion they just got away with it in 2018 and it arguably cost us in 2019.

The Cork game ebbed and flowed thoā€¦ We had periods on top in the first and second half. Cork just hit us for 1-2 without reply during their purple patch in the second half ā€¦ Kilkenny just came out like maniacs for the first 20 minutes and Limerick were just simply not prepared for it for whatever reason. Limerick slowly got back into it and actually dominated the second half but hit about 5 criminal wides while everything KK hit went over. Quite often a bit of luck helps these things also ā€¦ We got a bit against Cork and we didnā€™t against KKā€¦ Thatā€™s just the way it goes at times. But youā€™re spot on about the Dowā€¦ Always the man for the big occasion, he had the x factor and bit of maverick/ genius ā€¦

They use the whiteboard to communicate an increase in the win bonus on offer from the big house every break if they arenā€™t winning well.

3 Patrickswell, 2 Ahane & 9 other clubs represented in the starting 15. Including a now-junior club. Not bad.
