Limerick GAA 2023-2024.... 5 in a row is not here

Ha, I knew it! We all had Knockaderry at 1-8 at full time. Scoreboard never added the extra point after their last free.

What do you think of that @Julio_Geordio?

Iā€™m afraid to speak after that :joy:

Would Ahaneā€™s Ronan Fox be worth a go in the Munster League games in Jan? Seems to have been one of their best performers in opening two rounds. He got some lovely points against Kilmallock.

I didnā€™t see their first game but agree he had a fine game against Kilmallock. Looks like he has the right build also.

Problem for anyone pushing though is there already is a queue of lads lined up and Iā€™m not sure who you would be dropping off the 36 for him.

Thereā€™s a requirement for backs.

Agreed and Iā€™m sure there may be some changes.

Itā€™s obviously a hard panel to get into, let alone get much gametime for anyone on the fringes.

There needs to he a succession plan as well though or else thereā€™ll be nobody blooded coming in behind when they all go

Were you at that match?

Who stood out for both teams?

Who did the scoring last night?

The game was dictated by massive wind which favoured Kierans in the first half. So when they went in two pts down the writing was on the wall. M/B came out and went up by 6 I think and it wasnā€™t ever really in doubt then.

Kierans did have a burst where they were on top in the second half but lacked the hurling to take advantage of possession. Were good at running the ball up to midfield/hf line but it broke down time after time from there. M/B made a few changes and started going for potshots which werenā€™t going over.

For M/B, Paudie Mc threw over a few scores in the first half and Mikey Ryan (the inside forward one) caused a bit of trouble. Their two midfielders, both Nicholas I think, got on a lot ball and are quick. Kennedy mopped up a good bit of ball but in reality they werenā€™t troubled too much. Iā€™m not overly familiar with Kierans players but they had some good runners from midfield and wing back but overall, they do lack the hurling.

Thanks for that; they needed that one to get back on. Itā€™s looking like their match versus Knockainey will be a huge one in the next round, could decide who gets through. Both had bad defeats the first day but bounced back fairly well against perceived weaker sides.

Canā€™t wait Scholsey run the drum cunts into the ground

Donā€™t mind that scummer.

Easy win for Monaleen over Liberties in the end. No Mark Oā€™Dwyer for Monaleen apparently, Luke Murphy & Mark Field with the goals.

Just back from Fr. Hayes Memorial Park, Caherconlish.

Bon Secours Limerick SHC Group B Round 2 RESULT.

Monaleen 2-24 Liberties 0-14.

As one sided as the score line would suggest, the 2022 All-Ireland intermediate hurling champions recover from a heavy opening day defeat to pick up their first points of the campaign. They flew out of the traps and led 0-05 to 0-01 after 10 mins, a Tom Ryan sideline getting Liberties off the mark. Slowly they grew into it though, mainly through Barry Cooney frees, and it was soon 0-07 to 0-05.

Luke Murphy was a livewire in the corner, a bundle of energy who was fouled for two pointed frees early on before he fetched a long delivery and drilled home. Liberties had a legitimate grievance over the number of steps he took but the goal stood. 1-12 to 0-08 at the break. 2023 Limerick panellist Donnacha Oā€™Dalaigh nabbed four from play in that opening half, living off scraps.

The second half was pretty much one way traffic, even with Monaleen facing into a stiff-ish breeze. Oā€™Dalaigh added two more as it turned into a procession. Sub Mark Field blasted home late on to complete the rout.

Star man was young Joe Fitz who bossed proceedings from the middle of the park in a virtuoso display. Covered every blade of grass, heā€™s a good ā€˜un. Landed three or four from play himself for good measure, superb display. He was a magnet to the ball.

His midfield partner Lochlann McHale also impressed, as did the ever dependable Lorcan Lyons and Darragh Langan.

For a Liberties outfit bereft of a host of key players, it was another tough day at the office. Two heavy defeats in a week now. They scored only one point from play in the first half, a Darragh Godfrey effort. Five time All-Ireland winner Barry Nash was stationed at centre back but Monaleen played everything around or over him.

Monaleen probably set a new national record with 46 players named in the match programme and 12 named on the management team.

Just in from Pairc na Gael, Croom

Mungret 2-14
Bruff 0-14

An understrength and extremely young mungret side got the win in the end as legs outran size.
With just 4 outfield players not eligible for u21 this year, those legs needed to be quick as they conceded size all over the pitch. Only Chams Jagana gave them an outlet as he had a fine game winning possession at wing forward.

Leading 1-9 to 0-8 after playing with a strong breeze did not look to be enough after half time. Bruff narrowed it to a point but a scrappy goal in the third quarter saw the lead stretch out. The stars tired and could not get another sight of goal. Mungret extended the lead to 7 and were comfortable despite wasting a whole pile of possession in the last quarter.

Bruff wonā€™t trouble the quarters from the weakest group in the competition. Mungret have two wins and may contend to qualify when they get a return for the half a dozen plus that were not available today for various reasons.

Yes from what I saw last week.
