Middle of the field in the first half and full forward for almost all of the second half, English followed him in.
He got a few class scores but English did well on him at the same time. He won a few balls in the air off him including a great overhead catch from behind him in the first half.
Darren OâConnell went the other direction and won a load of ball around the half back line.
There are a few whispers here about Limerick needing backs soon, and in fairness there are more forwards coming through, but Iâd say we will figure it out.
Youâd have to feel for John Chawke for Doonâs first goal. It was a poor goal goal to give away for a lad whoâs a very decent keeper. K/P needed the goal, Peter Nash really should have goaled when presented with the chance. Doon came back with a response every time K/P got a score. Hard to tell from a three minute highlights reel but DOD seemed quite prominent for Doon as did Pat Simon, while Darren OâConnell certainly kept Kildimo/Pallas in it during the first half. English got a few classy long range points, he needs to be pushing hard for a starting spot in the Limerick setup next year, would love to see him fulfil his potential. Kyler seemed to come alive in second period after a quiet first half. Think 7 points might have been a bit flattering for Doon, K/Ps performance was better than the scoreline suggests.
Ten years ago to the week nearly it was last minute wins to stay in the lower intermediate.
To be in and around the top six is a huge achievement but breaking into that big four is as big as any step. Itâll take time.
The squad is very young and that has its benefits going forward but it also means your down a lot of lads for periods of the summer. There is also more lads playing football than the big four combined too and thatâs a tricky balance particularly when three of the lads are playing county football too.
Maybe if the ahane game was last things could have worked out differently but thatâs the joys of the fixture list too.
Its extremely difficult to be competitve in both codes. Its one or the other really in my opinion unless you have a massive group to pick from who arent playing both.
If you look at Patrickwell and Kilmallock, theyâre classic examples of clubs that just take hurling seriously. They have reaped the rewards for same over the years.
In an ideal world of course both codes should be treated equally but its nearly impossible for a good club player to excel at both nowadays.
I guess there can be benefits fitness wise and maybe momentum but trying to break into that ceiling of the big four in hurling in Limerick is so tough.
