As good a club game you’d see, the standard from the supporting cast was very high also, what you’d expect really from the top hurling county.

Finished Ahane 1-13 Na Piarsaigh 1-21

Ronan Fox was on fire in the first half with 1-3 as I mentioned above. Cathal King came on at half time and snuffed him out, he got one further point and a wide or two.

Ahane had no other scoring threat apart from Tom Morrissey. I think the two of them had all but one of their scores.

In contrast NaP had five points from play from the half back line alone. Downes had a great match at centre back, he is improving every day out. Knows when to drive forward and picked up three points.

Peter Casey stayed inside in the first half but was popping up all over the place at times in the second half. DaithĂ Dempsey and Wayne Kearns won a load of ball also.

Competitive for 40 odd minutes but Ahane couldn’t live with it. NaP were pinging the ball around for a finish. The wide count was something like 13-6 so were full value for the eight point win.

Just back from sun kissed Ballingarry.

Intermediate hurling championship Group 2 Round 4 RESULT.

Knockainey 2-13 Feohanagh 0-18.

Heartbreak for a gallant Feohanagh, a Padraic Barron ‘65 deep into added time wins it for the All Blacks. Really enjoyable game that ended with a welter of excitement, the westerners were well worth a draw but it wasn’t to be.

A second one point defeat in five days for an injury ravaged Feohanagh which is a bitter pill for them to swallow. They now can’t make the knock out stages and face the appalling vista whereby a defeat to Croom in the last round will condemn them to a relegation final which is unthinkable considering how gutsy and brave they were tonight.

They stormed out if the blocks and led by 0-07 to 0-02. 5 time All-Ireland winner Seamus Flanagan created the first score after an unbelievable catch from a puck out but aggravated his hamstring injury in doing so. He could barely move for the rest of the time on the edge of the square but still went on to score two points and set up a couple more.

Knockainey were second best in nearly every department but were thrown a lifeline when the ever dangerous Jason Lonergan ghosted in behind the defence to blast home. It got even better a few mins later when Padraic Barron powered through to bag a second. After doing most of the hurling the Feohanagh men went in a point down.

With Flanagan’s movement seriously curtailed, and already down Alan Roche who is out travelling around Vietnam apparently and possible cruciate victim Sean Flanagan, the Feohanagh men must have wondered if they had run over a fleet of black cats. It got even worse as they lost wing back John McEnery with a shoulder injury after shipping a heavy knock. All credit to them though, on an immaculate surface they hung in gamely and it was nip and tuck all second half.

Ultimately indiscipline cost them. Twice in the last ten mins they were awarded very scoreable close in frees, and twice it was thrown in for retaliation. In such a tight game where you lose by a point incidents like that are an absolute killer.

Knockainey showed good grit to dig it out but they’ll be disappointed overall. A third win on the bounce, but they’ll need significant improvement to trouble big guns like Croagh or Bruree later in the year going by this display. The usual suspects stood up when the need was greatest, Kieran Cleary, both O’Grady’s and the redoubtable Barron.

Team G/B will win the group, and secure a semi final berth, with a win against Kieran’s on Saturday but a win for the Saints would put three teams on 6 points. Plenty of permutations, all will be clearer after that game.

Padraic Barron 1-03 (0-02 frees)
Jason Lonergan 1-01
Pat Kirby 0-03 (0-02 frees)
Mikey O’Grady 0-02
Kieran Cleary 0-02
Ethan Dorney 0-01
Rory Reale 0-01

Jack Kenny 0-09 (0-07 frees, 0-01 ‘65)
Seamus Flanagan 0-02
David O’Donovan 0-02
James Guina, David O’Brien, Jack Condon, Johnny Field and Micheal Nolan - all 0-01.
