Limerick GAA 2023-2024.... 5 in a row is not here

Currently in Malta so won’t be present for today’s round of internediate games. Im sure @dodgy_keeper will have a proper report on Murroe Boher vs champions elect Granagh Ballingarry.
Perhaps he’ll be in Feenagh too a little earlier for Croagh vs Kilmallock…?

Couple of matches been called off because of the weather apparently.

HT in Claughaun in the promotion decider. Advantage Ballybrown at the break, they lead Mungret 0-14 to 1-5.

They did have the wind in their favour though. They started like a train and had 4 or 5 points in 5 minutes and were throwing points over from distance, Josh Adams has 0-2 from centre-back from just opening the shoulders.

But Mungret worked their way back into the game, their half-forward line dropping deep to get on ball, Brian O’Meara & Fintan Fitz very prominent and then Barry Duff scored yet another goal in this year’s Championship. Paul O’Brien did well to poke the ball out of a ruck on the puckout on the right wing and it just opened up in front of Duff and he finished well. Josh O’Reilly did get a touch on it but couldn’t keep it out.

Ballybrown full-back line cleaning up a lot of ball going inside, Stevie O’Reilly in particular has been excellent. But for a lot of the half, it looked as if Mungret had weathered the storm and were kinda staying in touch, 3 points behind for most of it. I would have said they would be delighted with that kind of margin, considering they’d have the wind to come.

But after another Liam Lynch free (think he has all 5 of Mungret’s points, 0-1 from play) drew it back to just 2 points, Ballybrown upped it before the break and reeled off four-in-a-row. Doolin got a nice one after winning the break from the resulting puckout, Aidan O’Connor scored a long-distance free after Josh Adams & Coughlan had missed a few between them, Aido then put one over straight away after Mungret were turned over in their own backline again and Coughlan rounded it off with his first point, which also resulted in Pa Begley getting a yellow for a high tackle.

When Ballybrown have hit top gear as they did in the first 5 and last 5 minutes of the half, they look a different level but, weirdly, I would have said Mungret had the better of the middle 20 minutes of the half. But they haven’t been able to get scores from play really, conditions are tough. Paul O’Brien had another goal chance which went just wide. 6 points isn’t surmountable but it’ll be interesting to see if they can work the scoring opportunities in the second half and what Ballybrown will be like against the wind. Will require a lot of work rate.

Are ye resting a few?

There was only an hour of real heavy rain and the forecast is fine for the evening. Clubs are just pulling their pitches to mind them. I’d be amazed if any of them were actually not playable come 5pm

Integrity of the Junior A championship in question. As Askeaton Vs Ballybricken game the only one to go ahead in the group. Meaning the other teams will be advantaged in knowing exactly what results are required. BB are level on points with the other two and a three way tie could end up on score difference

Goal Liam Lynch, Mungret go ahead for the first time with 5 to go.

2-15 to 0-19 and Ballybrown struggling for scores because of the conditions.

A few of the 21s started for Croagh alright. And a couple out with injuries. No point risking anyone when we’re already guaranteed to finish top. A must win game for your biys.

Adare are currently 10 up which would mean Ballybrown not only not go up, they’d be out if it finishes as it is now.

Ballybrown have just missed a free.

Kilmallock 2-12 Croagh/Kilfinny 0-13.
57 mins gone.

Croagh got the last four points to narrow gap but will need something special approaching full time to pull this one out of the fire.

Permutations overdrive, Monaleen have closed the gap to 9. Ballybrown down by 3. Even a score would do them for QF, but they want to go up obviously.

A tasty looking senior b currently

Last minute goal for Monaleen against Adare probably saved Ballybrown in terms of making a QF.

Ballybrown 0-20 Mungret 2-17

Mungret go up to Senior A. Depending on the final score between Adare & Monaleen, Ballybrown might just scrape through to a quarter-final. They were fucked until Monaleen got that goal anyway.

Liam Lynch’s goal towards the end crucial for Mungret, great finish. Think he must have got 1-12 or 1-13.

Full time in Intermediate Group 1 Round 5:

Kilmallock 2-12 Croagh/Kilfinny 0-13

Has anyone got a final score from Hospital v Knockaderry? Neither club has bothered their holes updating Twitter score past half time!

H/H 1-17, Knockaderry 2-09.

Looks like HH are now possibly in a QF?

And this is just the start of it. If they can survive up there next year, there’s nothing to stop them going on become another Na Piarsaigh.

He did some job on the frees.

Mungret’s work rate in the second half was very impressive. They destroyed a few of Ballybrown’s short puckouts when they probably should have been going long anyway even into the breeze.
