Limerick GAA 2023-2024.... 5 in a row is not here

A very different second half, Bruree had all the momentum and fought back into it. Closed the gap to 4 and looked like they maybe could have sneaked it but just ran out of time.

Tobin finished with 3-9, 3-8 from play.

Cracking game in Clarina.

Intermediate hurling championship quarter final RESULT.

Murroe Boher 3-23 Bruree 3-19.

A classic game of two halves. The returning Seanie Tobin put on a clinic, he blasted home a hat trick of goals inside the first 15 mins as M/B surged into a 3-08 to 0-01 lead. A shell shocked Bruree eventually woke from their slumber and goals from the O’Deas - Kieran and Jimmy - had it back to 12 at the interval. 3-15 to 2-06.

M/B were just totally dominant. Their all conquering half back line of Hourigan, Darragh Kennedy and Jack Nicholas were lording it. Both Mikey Ryans were also very prominent. But Tobin was the star man, lethal. His movement and ability to drift into space is unreal. His goals nearly all took the same manner, ghosting in behind the defence and blasting home with aplomb each time. Kieran O’Rourke was struggling badly on him.

Straight from the throw in, another Tobin effort from play. Credit to the southerners though, they mounted a fierce comeback. 10 down and facing a shellacking, they kept going. After a Brian Sexton goal was quickly cancelled out, they completely took over the last quarter. Star man Sam Cronolly was shifted in corner forward and got serious joy. He was ably assisted by Tommy at midfield. They hit six or seven on the trot but also hit a number of very costly wides in that period too. Ultimately they ran out of time. They’ll have enormous regrets after such a slow start.

Murroe now advance to a semi final date with G/B in Fedamore next Saturday afternoon at 4pm. Their dead rubber encounter on astro last week was complete shadow boxing. In this first half form, the M/B men will take serious stopping.

A senior outfit only three or four years ago before successive relegations, they have a clatter of top class club hurlers. The imperious Tobin can win games on his own. He was to finish with a haul of 3-09, 3-08 of that from play. Spellbinding display from the 2013 Munster title winner. Plenty for G/B to mull over this week. Darragh Kennedy was probably their next best, got on a world of ball at centre back.

All eyes now turn to the other quarter final tomorrow. Neighbours Hospital and Knockainey do battle in Knocklong at 5pm for the right to play champions elect Croagh in the semi final.

Seanie Tobin 3-09 (0-01 frees)
Aaron Kennedy 0-07 (0-06 frees)
Big Paudie Mac 0-02
Mikey Ryan1 0-02
Mikey Ryan2, Mark Nicholas and Darragh Kennedy - all 0-01.

Sam Cronolly 0-08 (0-04 frees)
Tommy Cronolly 0-04 (0-01 frees)
Kieran O’Dea 1-01
Jimmy O’Dea and Brian Sexton 1-00 each.
Conor Frawley & Paddy Lynch 0-02 each.
Ronan O’Halloran & Pa Deady 0-01 each.

Ballylanders stay up in the football, beating Claughaun comfortably enough.

Casey’s beat NaP in the football quarter-final. Odd enough scoreline as NaP scored more goals than points, which is like something you’d see in U-10s.

You can’t kill a bad thing

Kp 1 down to monaleen with 2 to go

Monaleen win.

You could have picked the 4 semi finalists at the start of the year. Which is not a great sign. The two finalists will be Adare and NCW most likely

Same with the senior hurling tbf

They were the better team tbf.K/P didn’t capitalise on they’re good first 20 mins and unbelievably went in a point down.

Was Kyle playing?

He was.

Man marked Brian Donovan did ok but Donovan had a big influence in monaleens purple patch after ht

More football played over the years counts.

They need to give up that hurling and train for football

Had a goal chance at the end, a flick by Cathal Downes. I thought it was in, Donal O’Sullivan thought it was in, just an inch outside the post.

As it was, we were the better team in the first half but contrived to go in a point down having led for pretty much the whole half. Probably didn’t make the most of their first black card, although it helped that they got to waste a couple of minutes of it by Johnny Murphy trying to fix a whole in the net.

They scored a goal straight from throw-in in the second half. And they were much the better team for the first 15 minutes of the second half, we just looked a little ragged after the goal and they built a bit of a lead.

To be fair, we fought back really well and started to work the scores, Cathal got a huge one from out the field and Nash got a lovely one. They then got a second black card when Kyle was bearing down on the 20m line and was hauled down.

Pulled it back to 1 and pressed very high but they managed to break through and get another score which meant we had to go for goal with the dropping ball at the end. And it was very very close, a whisker away.

Despite them having a young side, I did think they were that little bit cuter than us, they managed the game better. I don’t know if they’ll beat NCW though.

Jack Canny and Donovan were excellent for them especially in the second half.K/P were robbed of a penalty in the first half too.I thought the ref was very poor in general.

Jack Canny was excellent, he caused us lots of problems alright.

Monaleen turned over a crazy amount of ball in the first half, we probably should have punished them more.
