Limerick GAA 2023-2024.... 5 in a row is not here

Corofin 0-11 Dromin/Athlacca 1-06 at half-time.

Very absorbing game. Loads of tackles & hits, every ball being fought for. D/A will be happy enough as there looks like they will have an absolute gale in the second half. Now, Corofin have found accuracy difficult enough at times but it makes a big difference on puckouts for sure.

Cian Scully stopped a certain goal chance with a brilliant tackle on Diarmuid Cahill but has also been guilty of some short passes being slightly off which have led to scores. In these conditions, short 50/50 passes probably aren’t ideal, need to make sure of it. A turnover in these positions almost certainly leads to a score for the team with the wind at their back.

Cahill got a hat-trick last time for Corofin but has been fairly well held so far, D/A are defending very well. But James Organ, the full-forward, has 0-4 from play and I think Gearoid Cahill has a couple from out the field too.

David Reidy has been superb for D/A, a real leadership role and Daniel Scully has scored a couple of absolute beauties. He’ll surely be on the Limerick 20s panel next year, had a really impressive campaign. Good use of the ball for a young fella.

Conditions are septic tbh, there was a horizontal downpour there for about 10 mins, but it is making it engrossing. I expected Corofin to be much too strong for D/A tbh, but D/A competing well, a lot of the young lads stepping up.

D/A have changed from the all-blue jersey to the hooped jersey at half-time.

Another absolute downpour. 1 in it.

Corofin goal pushes the lead out to 5. That could be that. D/A haven’t really put together a run of scores.

Straight red for Mark Fitzpatrick.

Dromin/Athlacca 1-15 Corofin 1-19

The better team in the second half tbf; D/A didn’t make as much use of the conditions as they could have.

The goal towards the end was the crucial score.

21s group delayed for weeks to accommodate Belville Gaels and then they give a walkover today. A joke.

We had a 21s football match v Oola postponed because Doon were hurling and then NCW gave them a walkover yesterday.

There needs to be much more severe punishment brought in for walkovers.

Hardly expect the Feenagh boys to play in the farce of an u21 competition when they’re through to a Munster final in 2 weeks time. The u21A has had a crazy amount of walkovers/postponements and the geniuses involved in sorting fixtures still insisted on having groups of 6 rather than 3 when it was obvious pitches would be impossible to get.

Two years in a row Belville have pulled out of 21s. The other side of the amalgamation must be pretty pissed off.

The Belville Gael himself will have to sort it.

Twas the other side was the problem last year though!

Were busy in Munster. The plan would have worked only for them pesky Clifford’s

Any early news on the club management merry go round?

Didn’t get to see the Ballygunner vs Na Piarsiagh game the weekend. Are Ballygunner streets ahead? or were Na Piarsaigh very poor? only scoring 1-9 at senior level isn’t very impressive.

NAP were septic. Hard to know what to make of Ballygunnar after it they were so bad

There was a few things I took from the game.

We didn’t get enough scores in the first half with the wind.

The ref gave us nothing, absolutely nothing.
Shane O’Neill seemed to be constantly talking to the linesman. The linesman was obviously talking to the Ref who was explaining the decisions. The players were shaking their heads constantly. The indecision at the half time whistle was ludicrous. Not even a yellow card shown. And again at the end. What was that free out for?

Ballygunner had a few passages of really good play where we couldn’t match them. Hitting over two or three unanswered points in a row.

They have better subs. It limited what changes we could make.

When the game was in the melting pot and Ballygunner were on the back foot, I’d have moved up Michael Casey to centre back, WOD into midfield , Boylan to centre and Peter into the corner. It might have opened it op a bit.
